Adventures in Voyeurism at Castle Howard. August 13, 2015 8:59 am. I’m a voyeur. At least where historic buildings are concerned don’t worry, I’m not standing in front of your windows I restrict my historic house lust to buildings actually open to the public. Creative Inspiration at British Pubs. March 31, 2016 6:48 pm. I’ve had some lovely times in pubs across Britain (I even remember some of them! FH and FAG: January 2014
http://fhandfag.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
FH and FAG: January 2014. Friday, January 24, 2014. A wild adventure doomed to early failure. Regent's Park, established around 1811, covers 410 acres in the north central London. It is, by far, my very favorite park in London. And the Open Air Theatre - not to mention throngs of pale and pasty Brits in all states of undress when the weather is warm and sunny in the summer. A profusion of delphiniums in Regent's Park. Reid Hall, which accommodated both the ladies of Bedford College and my. They also prob...

FH and FAG: August 2014. Saturday, August 30, 2014. Emperors, walls and money. A drylaid stone fence in the Outer Bluegrass. Fence along a roadway in Franklin County, Kentucky. Emperors and stone walls were not at the top of my agenda when my sleep fogged brain registered the NPR story. Hadrian's Wall, between Housesteads and Once-Brewed (or between my sweaty exertions and a pint). When I look back on the adventures of my holiday in 2013, my most memorable time and I saw many. Helping to save thousands o...

FH and FAG: June 2013. Sunday, June 30, 2013. The mortal meandering of a corpse way. My first full day in the Lake District was wet. And soggy. Though relieved to have packed my enormous (and bright) parka, I did not have the foresight to pack my camera bag therefore the combination of startling color and the strange protuberance underneath my parka dispelled any notions I had about fading into the scenery. (Which, I admit, I don’t tend to do very well on bright and sunny days). A charming house in Rydal.

FH and FAG: May 2014. Monday, May 26, 2014. Cemeteries, stories and memory. Growing up, I spent a good deal of time visiting cemeteries and graveyards, both those established sites with their neat rows of markers and stones, and the wild, neglected and mostly forgotten spots scattered across my family farm. High on a hill above the town-. A handful of tombstones, including a few around which a tree had grown,. Were near one of our barns, in a small copse of trees. One of the ceramic poppies that will be ...

FH and FAG: July 2013. Monday, July 29, 2013. Looking back toward Housesteads along Hadrian's Wall. Years ago, I read an article in Smithsonian Magazine about hiking Hadrian’s Wall, and while I am not typically a mad hiker, the images and the idea lingered.*. Heading toward Vinolanda (along the Stanegate Road). Vindolanda, a Roman fort south of Hadrian's Wall. At least 8 forts have been on this site -some from before the wall. The fort guarded the Stanegate Road, a Roman road that run from the Ri...While...

The Garden Stock Pot | and other culinary explorations
The Garden Stock Pot. And other culinary explorations. Dinner for those in Braces. September 29, 2011. He then gently slid it out of the wok and onto a cookie sheet where it laid nice and flat. We then covered the cooked egg mixture with slices of tomato and cheese. It was so good. Not really an omelet. Not really a fritata. Not really a pizza. What would you call it? It’s all about Honey (and Roses! September 1, 2011. I began to do some research and found a very simple recipe for rose honey. Being glute...

Gardens to Die For | The Teachings of Mark Jensen
Gardens to Die For. The Teachings of Mark Jensen. Niche for Mary at St. Luke’s. Though out of order, due to my inexperience, here are a selection of photos from the recently finished trompe l’oeil niches at St. Luke’s in Raleigh, dedicated to the memory of Monsignor Tim O’Connor. The base moulding pediment stone of Mary’s niche is inscibed with an interwoven monogram of Monsignor Tim’s initials, as I believed them to be, as a personal dedication to him and his patronage. Arch complete, now the Rosettes.
