My husband and I have been married for over 37 years. We have two adult daughters – one gay and one straight. Both are in long-term relationships with their partners, but only one is able to marry in Australia. Marriage enables a couple to publicly declare their love and commitment to each other. It also signals to young gay people that they are worthy of equal treatment in the eyes of the law, and not second class citizens! Next Story ». I support this story. As a couple, we have been invited to all of our friends’ weddings and each time there is definitely a sense that we would also like to share our own marriage with our friends. We are going to do it anyway, because in actuality, no one can stop us from celebrating with all those that love us! Laquo; Previous Story. Next Story ». I support this story. About « My Marriage Story
http://mymarriagestory.com.au/about
Right now, in Australia, some people do not have the legal right to marry their soulmate. The Marriage Equality Matters campaign tells the stories of people like you who believe that every Australian should have equal rights, and should have equal access to marriage. Marriage equality is about participation in family life. We hope this campaign will make MPs aware that the issue doesn’t just affect couples who can’t get married, but also their friends, families and many others in the community.

I am seventeen and just finishing high school. I have only recently (in the last year or so) come to terms with the fact that I am bisexual. I have talked to friends at school about marriage equality, and people often say that the legal rights are the same, but that the term ‘marriage’ is not for same-sex couples. But equality in everything but name is not equality. Laquo; Previous Story. I support this story. Sign up to show your support for this story. Keep me updated about the campaign.

I am a regular 17 year old guy with gay family members and friends. I find it unacceptable that I if I choose, may marry my girlfriend in years to come but however my gay family members and friends may not marry their chosen partners. There must be put a stop to this nonsense. Laquo; Previous Story. Next Story ». I support this story. Sign up to show your support for this story. Keep me updated about the campaign.
