Making MY NY Home. Thoughts on settling down and making a home in Central NY. Saturday, September 24, 2011. Here are a few highlights-in-pictures of our trip to Oregon last month. Our trip was fast and furious, but we are so glad we went. Time spent with Grandmama and Great-grandmama was fabulous, and we all feel so very much at home there. Coming back to NY was even harder than usual. Thank you, Oregon, for the great visit! We can't wait to come back again. Good for Grandmama and Great-Grandmama! Choo C...

Making MY NY Home: Peach Goodness
http://makingmynyhome.blogspot.com/2011/09/peach-goodness.html
Making MY NY Home. Thoughts on settling down and making a home in Central NY. Sunday, September 18, 2011. Last year, our peach tree had issues. Nearly all the fruit got some sort of mold/rot on it before it was ripe enough to pick and eat. There was, however, just enough good peaches in the harvest to make one batch of peach shortcake, and for that we were happy. 2010 Peach Crop: Not So Good. And we were right! Needless to say, we've been enjoying them very much, in many ways! I cooked them in water unti...

Making MY NY Home: December 2010
http://makingmynyhome.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Making MY NY Home. Thoughts on settling down and making a home in Central NY. Thursday, December 30, 2010. Dark Days Dinner #4 - Dec. 23rd - Venison Tenderloin and Potato Latkes. I'm a bit late in posting this - the holidays have managed to keep me blissfully away from the computer for many days in a row now! I figure if I can at least write about one meal before making the next, I'll be doing all right. This dinner really starts quite some time before last Thursday. How local was I / What did I learn?

Making MY NY Home: November 2010
http://makingmynyhome.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Making MY NY Home. Thoughts on settling down and making a home in Central NY. Tuesday, November 30, 2010. This last month has been insanely busy, and I'm embarassed to say, more than a little stressful. I have all but two of the big-ticket items on my to-do list done now though, and am looking forward to December, for so many reasons! The Dark Days Challenge starts tomorrow (and the swiss chard in my garden might just have survived that last frost where I forgot to cover it - yippee! Depending on the foo...

Making MY NY Home: August 2011
http://makingmynyhome.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Making MY NY Home. Thoughts on settling down and making a home in Central NY. Sunday, August 21, 2011. I ask you: why is it that the shorter days of late-summer seem to come on so much faster than the longer days of spring? I'm not sure what the answer is, but lately I've felt I've barely been able to keep up - with work, with cleaning, with the yard, with the garden, with family, with most everything! Thanks to the little guy, we have a candid glimpse of what. This home I'm making isn't just about what ...

Making MY NY Home: April 2011
http://makingmynyhome.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Making MY NY Home. Thoughts on settling down and making a home in Central NY. Wednesday, April 27, 2011. I have a whole list of posts that I want to write, built up over these last two weeks that I've been away from home. Instead of tackling one of those though, I thought I'd share a few pictures of the latest additions to our flock! Monday afternoon we picked up six new, teeny-tiny little chicks. They are *unbelievably* cute! Picking out the chicks at Agway. All those birds made such a chirping ruckus!

Making MY NY Home. Thoughts on settling down and making a home in Central NY. Friday, June 24th, 2011. Exciting news: tonight we picked and ate our first sweet peas. Never mind the solstice, now I KNOW summer is here! Also up and growing now are the green beans, the second hill of zucchini, the second plantings of kohlrabi and lettuce, and so far the transplanted celariac starts that I got from the market are looking strong! Friday, June 10, 2011 - Garden Update. Here's a map of what I've got in:. I noti...
