Meh, why not?

Meh, why not? This'll probably be mostly about music, but what's really keeping it from being about anything else? Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Some Connections Between Miles and Bjork. Which isn't even in commercial production yet. Another link between Bjork and Miles Davis is how they treat their own melodies in live performances. One thing I`m always astounded by when I listen to The Complete Concert 1964: My Funny Valentine and Four More. And here's that recording of All Blues. Links to this post.

Meh, why not?: Thank You Jon Cage For Classifying This Under Music

Meh, why not? This'll probably be mostly about music, but what's really keeping it from being about anything else? Thursday, February 07, 2008. Thank You Jon Cage For Classifying This Under Music. In a pretty lively voice. I'm pretty certain it's a way to show their energy and enthusiasm for the product they're selling. However, here the staff were saying their "Welcome! Another yaki-imo truck parked near my local train station. Note the loudspeaker on top. I don't get it? How is this related to Jon Cage?

Meh, why not? This'll probably be mostly about music, but what's really keeping it from being about anything else? Friday, September 08, 2006. Here's some music theory for you (apologies in advance). With both factors at play, the album format might not have (as much of) a prominent role in how people listen to music in the coming years. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Meh, why not? This'll probably be mostly about music, but what's really keeping it from being about anything else? Thursday, October 05, 2006. Is it art or just simply crap? Taking this very idea of faulty machinery to yet another level, I want to pose this question: Can the music created with the use of faulty electronics be considered chance or aleatoric music much like that of John Cage? Or does this border on trying to legitimize shitty music? Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Meh, why not?: January 2008

Meh, why not? This'll probably be mostly about music, but what's really keeping it from being about anything else? Tuesday, January 29, 2008. Another problem however is a plain lack of organization. And to help, I have decided to make a checklist of sounds that I want. Train approaching warning (from the platform). Imminent departure (different tunes on different platforms). Assorted recorded announcements on the limited express train. Assorted spoken announcements on the local train. Links to this post.

Meh, why not? This'll probably be mostly about music, but what's really keeping it from being about anything else? Saturday, December 22, 2007. Another bit of Ethnomusicology. It was a while ago, but back in October I went to a Taiko. Although this image is generally a bit blurry, you can still see how much the performers wind-up to strike some of the larger drums. And here's a short video. Where you can see some of the grandeur that people portray during performances. Links to this post. I'm currently l...

Occasional text by Ian Macleod, often lacking context. November 8th, 2012. Sometimes you can’t quite make out what the vocalist is saying. Maybe you really want to know. You love the song, but after multiple listens you can’t get it right. So you Google it. Congratulations, the internet gets to troll you. And it’s: Skipped through to the end to see if you got help from someone there up on high /. May have heard the beacon’s faint cry. Not: Skipped through to the end and you’ve got help from someone else /.

Occasional text by Ian Macleod, often lacking context. Outdated Software and Support. September 27th, 2012. I run outdated software on my home computer. I know it to be outdated (OS X 10.5). I have an old computer (going on 5 years) and though I could probably run the next two iterations of the OS, I just haven’t bothered. Yesterday, a problem came up in my browser and it got me off my duff to fix the problem. Posted by Ian Macleod. Comments Off on Outdated Software and Support. I am getting old.

Occasional text by Ian Macleod, often lacking context. The Year of Long Books. December 27th, 2012. I don’t think I’ll declare 2012 a banner year in my particular life. Many things that I had intended to do with the year went undone, many of the goals I set for the year went unmet. But there were positive things in it, and a bit of a reversal of one of my long held opinions. I read a lot of long books this year. Because sometimes, even I have to admit, they are worth it. So, why have I changed my mind?

Occasional text by Ian Macleod, often lacking context. March 1st, 2013. I do not claim to be one of the great experts in password security. I know a thing or two about stupid passwords, as I had to reset people’s passwords occasionally when I worked for an ISP. Everyone wants a stupid password. That’s old news. Why it emails you confirmation of the password change with your new password in a fresh and equally unencrypted email. Which I think somewhat misses the point. Posted by Ian Macleod. June 1st, 2009.

Occasional text by Ian Macleod, often lacking context. Large Portions of My Life Are Spent in the Shadow of Cultural Artifacts I Dislike. January 5th, 2012. In my youth, Highlander was popular.
