Garvey's Blog

Thursday, May 15, 2008. Wednesday, May 14, 2008. This chapter continued to reveal the relationships between Chinese and Early American Culture. The Pacific Coast of America still has many of these similarities with China even to this day. Some of these include: Language, Asian chickens, Dye and Art Techniques, just to name a few. Gavin goes into great detail about each one so it is impossible just to classify them as coincidences. At the time), but it seems they wanted everyone to know of it.

Garvey's Blog: 1421: Chapter 6

http://www.garveys-blog.blogspot.com/2008/05/1421-chapter-7.html

Monday, May 12, 2008. Ah yes, Hong Bao. I remember hearing of this guy. Antarctica eh? Not sure I totally understand how they use Canopus and Polaris back to back to plot Longitude, but maybe you can explain to me in class about what you read on this. I'd be interested in hearing. Cabbage would combat scurvy, which is fought with eating vitamin C. Anthing that is plant based can help us with this. The Brits used Limes on board their ships. Which is why British sailors were nick-named "Limeys".

http://www.garveys-blog.blogspot.com/2008/05/1421-chapter-4.html

Sunday, May 11, 2008. Well, I guess that's the focus point. After the tip of S. Africa, I guess that's the window of opportunity for the treasure fleet to have made a dash across the Atlantic. Following the current to the "Bulge" of Africa makes sense I guess. Didn't know about the Japanese map though. May 26, 2008 at 8:06 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Hey everyone. http://www.garveys-blog.blogspot.com/2008/05/1421-chapter-9.html

Wednesday, May 14, 2008. Shipwreck in the Sacrameno River? When did this happen? I never heard about this one. Is there any documentation to this or does Menzies make this up? I'll have to look into it. So they were impressed by the Mayans? I guess the pyramids must have impressed them? I wonder if there are any Mayan records to prove this meeting? 200 years later the Conquistadors will put an end to the Mayans. I'll have to read this book over the summer, you have peaked my interest in Menzies ideas.

http://www.garveys-blog.blogspot.com/2008/05/1421-chapter-7_14.html

Wednesday, May 14, 2008. At the time), but it seems they wanted everyone to know of it. I guess if two different fleet groups left two different places and arrive at the same meeting point, then their system obviously worked. Funny that the Europeans didn't use this same sort of idea, unless they didn't know about it which I guess they didn't. Didn't know about the marker rocks. Did he find any of these at all? I would think they'd still be out there on the islands. May 26, 2008 at 8:46 AM.

http://derykherold.blogspot.com/2008/02/chapter-seventeen.html

Mythology of Hinduism # 2. View my complete profile. Mr Farrell's Wiki Page. Thursday, February 7, 2008. I think the church gives Nwoye a chance at being accepted. Lets face it, his father was never going to love or accept him. The church does this quite wisely, by accepting the cast-offs of the tribe, it grows and grows in popularity. The so called “evil forest” doesn't do the trick after 28 days, which I think goes a long way to showing the natives that their pagan Gods are not real.

Mythology of Hinduism # 2. View my complete profile. Mr Farrell's Wiki Page. Thursday, February 7, 2008. Since Mr. Brown died his place was taken by Reverend James Smith. None of the cultural clan like him, after a few weeks of him, he suspended a woman from church for putting new wine in old bottles, WHAT does it matter? I think we are being shown the "Culture-clash" of the two faiths and value systems. Neither is right to do what they did as you said. The Town begins to fall apart too.

Sarah Wallace: "Crossing" from Lost Names

http://wallaceworldcultures.blogspot.com/2008/05/crossing-from-lost-names.html

Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Crossing" from Lost Names. I thought this first story was pretty interesting. It was not at all what I had been expecting though. I expected it to be kind of like Things Fall Apart. Where there are like mini stories that all tie together to make one novel. However, that doesn't seem to be the case for Lost Names. From what I understand, each story is about the same family, just at different times in their life. May 20, 2008 at 3:11 PM. Often in Asia, names are not used but instead...

World History: TGOST Ch. 9 & 10

http://samworldhistory.blogspot.com/2008/05/tgost-ch-9-10.html

TGOST Ch. 9 and 10. Present day, Rahel is watching toads, yet another "small thing" as she thinks about the day that she, Estha, and Sophie Mol went to visit Velutha, and how good he treated them. She mentioned that he was nothing like the parents, that he did not judge them or anything. He was just himself, and he let everyone be themselves also. The "Small things" definitely reoccur throughout the novel. (toads, bugs, etc). June 1, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). TGOST ch 5 and 6.

World History: TGOST Ch. 7 & 8

http://samworldhistory.blogspot.com/2008/05/tgost-ch-7-8.html

TGOST Ch. 7 and 8. There is a lot of talk about insects at the end of chapter 6 and the beginning of chapter 7. The author makes a note of a lot of the little things in the story, like bugs. I suppose that is why the book is called The God of Small Things. At the beginning of Chapter 7, Rahel is looking through Pappachi's study for things that her and Estha had when they were children. Estha just stands by the door and watches his sister. June 1, 2008 at 12:33 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

World History: TGOST Ch. 17 & 18

http://samworldhistory.blogspot.com/2008/05/tgost-ch-17-18.html

TGOST Ch. 17 and 18. Estha is sitting on his bed watching Rahel sleep, which is kind of weird, but it reminds him of his mother. He ironed Rahel's clothes for her, which I thought was kind of weird. Even though I do not personally believe this, I thought that would be seen as a woman's job, and Rahel would have ironed Estha's clothes, not the other way around. June 1, 2008 at 1:09 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). TGOST Ch. 21 and Final Review. TGOST Ch. 19 and 20. TGOST Ch. 17 and 18.
