This particular day there had been a fast moving snow storm that dropped a few inches and then the wind behind it lowered the temperature to 17 degrees. The evening shadows were beginning to lengthen and take on a blue cast as the sun hovered above the western peaks. On any other than a winter's day, this scene may not have gotten a second glance. Subject matter for his paintings includes landscape, cowboy life, wildlife and remnants of bygone days. He searches for the passed over, often mundane scenes, that when viewed in a different light, can stir the soul. Painting strictly in oils and using pencil sketches for composition, Gary then does a field study in oil, completing a finished painting in the studio. The camera and easel are constant companions.
