In 1945, a recent graduate in veterinary medicine from Auburn University, Dr. Ben Dawsey, realized that there was a demand for a full-service veterinary hospital in Gastonia. He started the first veterinary hospital in his town, which later expanded from a 900-square-foot building to the 5,000-square-foot building that it is today.
