http://heartlandkitchen.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
The purpose of this blog is to document all the yummy things that come out of an urban kitchen, in the heart of the Heartland. Monday, October 15, 2012. French Macarons - a Study in Shells. Image courtesy of Laduree - famous famous famous. Ah, this has probably been the most difficult thing I have ever made. Having said that, it was the actual reason I decided it was worth learning how to do: it was difficult. I am a sucker for a challenge! More than I could resist. There was one recipe my mother and gra...

RoofGrown - Growing the Future. The purpose of this blog is to promote, inspire and encourage global sustainability in all forms. Monday, June 4, 2012. Wild Black Raspberries and Red Currants. It's easy to see why there is a "fight" to the finish with the wildlife around here for the natural abundance we share on this property. I mean it is probably their. Doing that allows us to enjoy this bounty anyway so I shouldn't begrudge a little competitive harvesting with the local wildlife. World, meet Black Kr...

RoofGrown - Growing the Future. The purpose of this blog is to promote, inspire and encourage global sustainability in all forms. Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Spring in Minnesota is a mixed bag. Not much you can do about the crazy weather which happens to be really crazy during March. Almost as if it can't quite give up winter without a fight. However, it usually succumbs and when it does, I am almost always ready for it. Brooms can be weapons of mass destruction, ask my shrubs. Gastro-Geek - my new blog!

RoofGrown - Growing the Future. The purpose of this blog is to promote, inspire and encourage global sustainability in all forms. Monday, November 5, 2012. Fall Perennials - Winter Kale? I thought I would post a picture of what is happening in our kitchen gardens in November. It's true, we're hunkering down for winter right about now. Most of the tender plants have gone into the greenhouse for a long winter's nap (or not! But in here, our kitchen garden, things seem to just be ramping up. In fact, way ba...

RoofGrown - Growing the Future. The purpose of this blog is to promote, inspire and encourage global sustainability in all forms. Thursday, January 3, 2013. Think gardening in the Frozen North is boring? Well maybe it can be a little dull, but not in here! I was lucky enough to break for lunch today and decided to brave the sparkly snow to make my way out to the greenhouse. Not a bad spot, right? Today, I was just contemplating serious haircuts for everyone when a few beauties caught my eye. I know it do...

This may seem a bit odd, but I have discovered that melons not only do best for me when grown off the ground but giving them vertical supports also makes it much easier for me, too. RoofGrown - Growing the Future: First Garlic of the Season
http://www.roofgrown.com/2011/09/first-garlic-of-season.html
RoofGrown - Growing the Future. The purpose of this blog is to promote, inspire and encourage global sustainability in all forms. Monday, September 5, 2011. First Garlic of the Season. Crappy picture, I know, but just look at my garlic. Sure, it isn't the largest bulb you've ever seen but homegrown garlic is SO much better than store-bought that I now grow it every single year. I am attempting to double up my crop every season just so I won't have to horde it like a stingy rat. Labels: German Red garlic.

RoofGrown - Growing the Future. The purpose of this blog is to promote, inspire and encourage global sustainability in all forms. Monday, April 23, 2012. These are some of the new Colorblends tulips and daffodils that I planted in the Fall. I think this orange mix is called "Threedom". The tulips are a yellow version with peach centers that are very cheerful with the orange mixes. We loved this blend and it lasted the entire month of April, about 4 weeks of continuous blooms.
