ASP.NET 5 Up and Running Series
https://gavindraper.com/2015/05/20/asp-net-5-up-and-running-series
Gavin Draper's Blog. Father, Developer, Tech Geek, Extreme Sports Fanatic. ASPNET 5 Up and Running Series. In the last week or so I've published 2 ASP.NET 5 posts each building on top of the previous. I've got a plan for at least 4 more which will I think turn it in to quite a good starting point to get up and running with ASP.NET 5. This page will act as an index for published and planned future posts. 3) Multiple Projects With Global.json. 4) Data Access With EF. Comments powered by Disqus.
Entity Framework 6 Entity/Property To Table/Column Names
https://gavindraper.com/2015/01/26/entity-framework-entityproperty-to-tablecolumn-names
Gavin Draper's Blog. Father, Developer, Tech Geek, Extreme Sports Fanatic. Entity Framework 6 Entity/Property To Table/Column Names. I was recently working on some code where I needed to be able to go from an EntitySet name to a table name and from an entity property name to a column name. It's not something I've ever needed to do before so had to do some playing around with the Entity Framework meta data API's, I very quickly learned these are a pain to work with. So I have an EntitySet called books tha...
Entity Framework 6 Interceptors
https://gavindraper.com/2015/01/27/entity-framework-6-interceptors
Gavin Draper's Blog. Father, Developer, Tech Geek, Extreme Sports Fanatic. Entity Framework 6 Interceptors. Interceptors in Entity Framework 6 allow you to hook in to before and after query events. The before events even allow you to modify the query that is about to be run. To write an interceptor you need to derive a class from DbCommandInterceptor and override the events you want to hook in to. To tell EF to use this new interceptor you just need to put this someone in the startup of your app.
F# Type Inference
https://gavindraper.com/2015/01/23/f-type-inference
Gavin Draper's Blog. Father, Developer, Tech Geek, Extreme Sports Fanatic. I'm just starting to look at functional languages from an Object Oriented background. One of the first things I thought was quite cool is F#'s type inference model and the fact that parameters types on functions can be inferred. Let's take this C# code. Var myInt = 10. Let myFunction x y = x y. Let myFunction x y = x y printfn "%s" (myFunction "1" "3"). Comments powered by Disqus. Gavin Draper's Blog. Proudly published with Ghost.
Getting Under The Hood
https://gavindraper.com/2015/03/19/getting-under-the-hood
Gavin Draper's Blog. Father, Developer, Tech Geek, Extreme Sports Fanatic. Getting Under The Hood. Whenever a piece of software does something that makes me think this is awesome I find myself blocking out the actually software and picturing how it's working behind the scenes. How did they implement this. How can I use this. How can I modify this. For the most part this is no risk of blowing something up. The freely available information on the web for learning is growing at an incredible rate. They get ...

Hopefully you can already spot some potential issues with this. Username wont always be the same length so VARCHAR is a better fit than CHAR, also in this case I know we never use usernames longer than 50 characters. Before we correct these issues let’s insert some dummy data. So reading 140k records aused 2200 page reads. This is because SQL Se...
