A blog of my explorations along the different routes to Santiago de Campostela. Day 29 kms 699.5. The gite wasn’t all that bad and my dormitory mates weren’t either. Dinner was in fact quite nice and we didn’t run out of wine. I also served as the french dictionary for my neighbours at dinner who were Japanese. Amazing to think that she had to translate between two foreign languages and could still talk passable french.

The route runs via Montpellier, Lodève, Castres, Toulouse, Auch, Oloron-Sainte-Marie and Jaca, crossing the Pyrenees by the Somport pass - about 900 kms (560 miles).

For the last few kms I was thinking about the things that I have seen and all the things I’ve done. I was being all very sanguine about it. However when I went through Saint James’ gate in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port I burst into tears, not something that I expected at all. Said: Congratulations on completing this epic walk!

I was very impressed that the fire tug put on a display for me. However it wasn’t until I put that final stamp in my pilgrims passport that I started to cry.
