The Island is about 21 miles long and 5 miles across. Vieques has a terrain of rolling hills, with a central ridge running east-west. Make your reservations early. There are often shortages of rental cars on the island! Verify your reservations a few days before you make your trip to the island. If you are going to do any island exploring rent a four wheel vehicle! We were glad we did! Some of the roads leading to the beaches and other areas are dirt roads and are BUMPY.
