The Soggy Gardener: December 2010
http://thesoggygardener.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 8, 2010. Regional Food Security Conference re-cap. I had the privilege of attending some of the Regional Food Security Conference this past weekend at CUH, and wanted to share what I learned. These women have been able to lift themselves up out of poverty and become completely self-reliant. It was an inspiring story that makes the obstacles of creating our own sustainable regional food system seem trivial and easily overcome. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

The Ag Nerd: June 2011
http://alternativeag.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Food, Food Security, Development, Cycling, and Other Rants. Thursday, June 9, 2011. So here's the latest update: Utah State reviewed my proposal for the farm project but just couldn't find any land for us to till. So, I had to table that plan. However, when I spoke with SRA, they said,"At least we tried. Oh, and by the way, can you go to Peru with us in August to set up that farm there? Of course, I accepted, so everything is working out perfectly! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

The Ag Nerd: February 2011
http://alternativeag.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Food, Food Security, Development, Cycling, and Other Rants. Friday, February 25, 2011. The Worms are Doin' the Dirty. As I was recently feeding my worms and doing a general check-over of worm bin conditions, I caught 2 worms havin' the "S". You are probably asking yourself, "Ag Nerd, how do worms get down? The worm population will grow until it reaches an equilibrium with the food supply and living space of their environment, in this case my worm bin. On another note, I recently applied for an internship...

http://alternativeag.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Food, Food Security, Development, Cycling, and Other Rants. Tuesday, April 26, 2011. I'm not dead, yet. Hello all, I'm sorry for how long it's been since I wrote last. I've had the craziest life lately! In March, I was accepted to the internship at the Center for Environmental Farming Systems in North Carolina. While we were in the process of planning out how in the H we were going to make it to NC, the most amazing opportunity presented itself to me. Http:/ www.selfreliantagriculture.org/ ). Just a prev...

The Ag Nerd: Death-A-Nol: The real story of corn ethanol.
http://alternativeag.blogspot.com/2011/11/death-nol-real-story-of-corn-ethanol.html
Food, Food Security, Development, Cycling, and Other Rants. Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Death-A-Nol: The real story of corn ethanol. I know I haven’t blogged in a while, but I have just been so busy writing papers for all of my classes. A couple of weeks and it will all be over! So, what’s my beef with ethanol? It comes down to how our actions affect others, especially in the international community. Unfortunately, life is such that you have to rob Peter to be able to pay Paul; a catch-22 if you wi...

The Ag Nerd: January 2011
http://alternativeag.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Food, Food Security, Development, Cycling, and Other Rants. Thursday, January 27, 2011. Here's a view to the west:. Coveralls are so flattering. Anyway, I chose an East-West orientation in order to maximize light exposure to plants (As is recommended for free-standing greenhouses above 40 degrees latitude). Instead of weed barrier mat and gravel for a floor, I am choosing to go with a less-permanent layer of bark mulch. Fresh veggies in April, here I come! Tuesday, January 25, 2011. I recently had a conv...

The Ag Nerd: May 2011
http://alternativeag.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Food, Food Security, Development, Cycling, and Other Rants. Thursday, May 19, 2011. I decided to re-post this blog as it appeared, yesterday, in both the Deseret News. And the Logan Herald Journal:. Americans have become addicts. Addiction is simply a behavior that one adopts as a mechanism for coping with the stresses inherent to normal life, though the coping mechanism rarely ends up solving the real problem, and to combat the stresses of everyday life, we have become addicted to excess. But the laws o...

The Ag Nerd: September 2011
http://alternativeag.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Food, Food Security, Development, Cycling, and Other Rants. Friday, September 2, 2011. As an ag student, my friends and I have some pretty heated conversations about contemporary agriculture issues. These can range from GMO's to using goats as weed control. But no matter what subject we're talking about, the question of whether or not that specific practice is sustainable always comes up. My answer is always the same; "That depends on your definition of sustainability". As I stated above, because of the ...
