Takeflight: March 2009
http://gbr4048.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Tom Whicher, Moth Sailor. Monday, March 23, 2009. An excellent session in marginal technique, and our informal windward leeward up and down the channel kept the action exciting, and the boats close. Gusty and shifty keeps you on your toes and reminds you of that normal sailboat racing stuff matters – head out of the boat and the ability to change gears quickly is fast. I’ve still a lot to do, but sessions like that are the way to get there. Kit wise we had:. And there it is! The boat felt fine – ju...

Tom Whicher, Moth Sailor. Friday, March 13, 2009. Honey, I'm home! First sail of the year last saturday has reignighted the passion for Mothing. It was only short, but I remembered everything I can't do. In the interests of open source mothing heres my notes from the sail:. 7-3-08, HISC. Wind SW – 12 to 18, gusts up to 22. Very gusty, average strength 3-5knts. Cold water (6.7 degC). REMEMBER twist grip - Clockwise for bow down. I can’t reach the control lines – potentially due to fear? Partly sail trim, ...

Takeflight: July 2009

Tom Whicher, Moth Sailor. Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Apple and blackberry cake and fish and chips were the food of choice, although bring your own booze curries had a certain je ne sais quoi, and took their toll on certain sailors the next morning. I was 13th, bloody happy with that, finished every race and no gear failure to speak of which must be a first for me - so much so that I won a prize for it! Rodders - Prowler Zero/KA. Fivestar - Mach 2/Hyde. Paul Hignett - Bladerider/KA. PS I just found this.

Tom Whicher, Moth Sailor. Tuesday, May 06, 2008. Lots of sailing recently, not much blogging. Possibly the way things should be? Last weekend was the Axebridge open, great fun and well attended by all, thanks to MC for organising! Managed to get out in Poole with Rodders Monday, and Thursady. Moth sailing is the perfect antidote to a day at work. Cracked foiling gybes on the first session, which I'm over the moon about, even if I am a bit behind the times, as the fack. Monday, August 22, 2005. Despite my last post, I 've just realised what a fantastic weekend it was. On friday a work colleague took the day off, but there was torrential rain all day and a thunderstorm thrown in for good measure. Saturday and sunday were blazing hot blue sky days, perfect. Then back to work today and the rain is hammering down again. Only two weeks until my foils are ready! Posted by Adie at 2:49 PM. Saturday, August 20, 2005. To get home. arrgh. Anyway I had a great sail and met up with...
Poole Moth Flying Squadron: April 2009

Poole Moth Flying Squadron. The exploits and events of the Moth sailors of Poole Harbour. Monday, 20 April 2009. A Winters tale of Captain Sensible and his trapped Moth. There was snow on the hills under a silver grey sky, and I was on my own in the harbour it seemed. And what a great days sailing it was. The sky turned ice blue and the breeze steadied and the harbour was my playground. Thursday, 16 April 2009. The Black Pudding. The Beer and The Hayling Tide Ride (08). This is a black pudding. Sunday mo...

Poole Moth Flying Squadron. The exploits and events of the Moth sailors of Poole Harbour. Thursday, 7 May 2009. The Hayling Open - Return of the Black Pudding. We have a little bit of history, Hayling and I. 2007 My shin bone carries a scar. A Hayling scar. A big nose dive in my mistress at Hayling threw me at the shroud plate and my leg took the blow. I should have had it stitched. A fond visual memory though, as I really enjoyed the event! My default setting is usually pretty downbeat. The Black Puddin...

Poole Moth Flying Squadron. The exploits and events of the Moth sailors of Poole Harbour. Thursday, 16 April 2009. The Black Pudding. The Beer and The Hayling Tide Ride (08). This is a black pudding. So I seem to be jumping back in time a little here to the Tide Ride open at Hayling Island last autumn. I never did blog it and Si Proppers remark about warm sick made me think of it again, in a new light…. That evening the band played on. And they were great. It might get gory. 1 quart pig's blood. And this...

Poole Moth Flying Squadron. The exploits and events of the Moth sailors of Poole Harbour. Thursday, 17 April 2008. She’s only been at it five minutes and despite a few early dunkings, by Jove I think she’s got it. Very interesting to see someone from the world of freestyle windsurfing take to a moth and begin with waterstarting as the chosen method of taking flight. Despite the chilly water and weird winds Katherine’s been keen as mustard to get out there. Lets hope so…. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The m...

Poole Moth Flying Squadron. The exploits and events of the Moth sailors of Poole Harbour. Friday, 29 February 2008. When I was a lad and boats were made out of trees. When you work at a sailing school and earn enough money to buy yourself a bag of chips and a hangover you look for something sensible, reliable, practical and affordable to sail. Yeah righ. T And so it was back near the dawn of time that I spent a drunken. Evening in a dim smoke filled caravan at Rockley point sailing school in Poole. Deep ...

Poole Moth Flying Squadron. The exploits and events of the Moth sailors of Poole Harbour. Tuesday, 11 March 2008. Just another note of thanks to everyone who helped to make the Parkstone open such a success. We were a bit worried about making sure there was enough water in the course area of the harbour during racing. You don’t want to be the one responsible for grounding anyones recently developed kit! It was great to see the latest designs one the water that have been kept under such close wraps.
Poole Moth Flying Squadron: September 2008

Poole Moth Flying Squadron. The exploits and events of the Moth sailors of Poole Harbour. Friday, 26 September 2008. So its all been a bit quiet on the blog. but only because we've been so so busy Mothing. Now its winter we'll waste a while on windows rather than whipping wildly round Poole harbour on foils! So here is a little summary -. 1 The weather wasn't at all summery. 2 I said goodbye to my M3. 3 The Powers of Parkstone yacht club. 4 Poole week arrived and so did the Mothies. In the cool cool eves...

Tuesday, September 13, 2005. Linton Jenkins at full force boats. Is an enthusiatic guy who is one of only two International Moth hydrofoil builders in the world, I'd entrusted him to fit one of his kits to my pride and joy. Now it was time to become a test pilot. When you get away from the shore and the boat lifts out for the first time, it all becomes more than worth it. The acceleration is a big deal here, it just keeps accelerating even though you think it can't go any faster! At these speeds any slig...

Tuesday, March 07, 2006. Last weekend I was one of small core of people manning the Moth stand at the RYA's Dinghy show at Alexandra Palace, a mere two hours away on the underground. If only I hadn't just spent a large wedge on a nice new Golf I may have put in an order with linton. Have I made the right decision. Posted by Adie at 12:22 PM. View my complete profile. Tom Whicher, Moth Sailor. Thursday, January 07, 2010. Sometimes life just works, doesn’t it? That’s how I felt when I was got an 11. Hour call from OC looking for someone to come sail the event Moth at the final iShare’s extreme 40 event in Almeria. Although it was short notice there was no way I was going to say no to that! I’m planning on a slow start to the year, skipping Dubai, and then depending on how I feel after the Europeans trying to take things seriously for a ramp-up to Australia. Fifteen eag...

Sunday, January 04, 2009. What this means for the finishing is that the main committee boat will follow the 1st boat eligible for the Bloody Mary and finish them dead on the finish time. Extra rescue boats will be dedicated to finish foilers that have already overtaken all eligible boats, which could be quite a distance ahead at this stage. Posted by Adie at 7:37 AM. Tuesday, July 08, 2008. Posted by Adie at 7:36 AM. Things have got so bad here in Weymouth that I've turned to updating the blog. 3-days ha...

GBR 4.7 Europeans 2011
GBR 47 Europeans 2011. Friday, July 15, 2011. Apologise for the lack of updates over the last two days, but the Hotel internet has been down and there has not been much to report. Wedenesdays sailing was cancelled as there was too much wind and Thursdays sailing cancelled as there was no wind! So no final sereies of racing. They tried to get the Gold and Silver fleets out on Wedenesday after a four hour postponement, but we had 30 knots on the beech so was never really going to happen. Having lost racing...
