About Greenham and Crookham Commons. The two commons are often known simply as "Greenham Common" because of the media prominence of Greenham Common Airbase during the cold war. However, a parish boundary runs roughly north-south across the site, dividing it into Greenham Common in the west (nearer Newbury) and Crookham Common in the East. This description applies to the two commons together. The total area is about 500 ha or 5 km 2. Landranger 1:50,00 Sheet 174. Newbury, Wantage and Surrounding Area).

We usually meet at 10:00 on the third Sunday*. Of every month. 2016 dates are. Jul 17 (afternoon task, meeting at 14:00, then AGM and evening barbecue). We normally keep one or two wet-weather tasks, like bird box or bat box construction in the workshop, in reserve as alternative tasks for really horrible days. 42;There are also some non-Sunday dates, like the evening nightjar survey(s) each summer.
