A tale told by an idiot. Sunday, April 30, 2006. I don’t mean to sound morose really. Death is a completely natural part of life. The people we have lost have all lived long, full and honorable lives. They were sure of their future in heaven and were ready to go. We just really didn’t expect them all to go at once. Perhaps she was like a pregnant woman who didn’t recognize the labor pains. Sometimes I wonder if this is what the rapture looks like. I am, to date, left behind. Posted by Kim at 8:19 PM.

A tale told by an idiot. Monday, July 12, 2004. Trash Day is always hectic at my house. In NY, trash pick up happens at least twice a week, and there is no limit to how many receptacles you can put out. In CA we only pick up trash once a week. We have a Little Old Trash Picker who comes every trash day to rifle through our recyclables. I don't mind - in fact, I'd give her all our cans and bottles if I could be more organized about it - but we all know that. He saw me and didn't even appear embarrassed at...

A tale told by an idiot. Wednesday, January 28, 2004. In "An American Childhood", Annie Dillard wrote beautifully of the awakening cognitions of children. Children 10 years old wake up and find themselves here, discover themselves to have been here all along; is this sad? They wake like little sleepwalkers, in full stride; they wake like people brought back from cardiac arrest or from drowning; in medias res. One day we will fully awaken into the spirit world, looking backward to these brief glimpses?

A tale told by an idiot. Wednesday, October 29, 2003. Oppression. (American Heritage dictionary of the English language). 1 The act of oppressing; arbitrary and cruel exercise of power: "There can be no really pervasive system of oppression. without the consent of the oppressed" (Florynce R. Kennedy). 2 The state of being oppressed. 3 Something that oppresses. 4 A feeling of being heavily weighed down in mind or body. In High School I was groomed for success. I would go on to high achievement. "Y...My pa...

A tale told by an idiot. Wednesday, August 25, 2004. Jack Johnson's song Taylor has haunted me lately. I knew several girls like Taylor. Two have come to visit my memories lately - beautiful faces without names. I cannot recall their names. The final affront to their pitiful little lives. Taylor was a good girl, never one to be late, complain, express ideas in her brain.". And what of the men who paid for her "services"? Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.". I'm sorry you never had a cha...

A tale told by an idiot. Saturday, January 07, 2012. What has come as a surprise however is an ever-growing pleasure in Advent, and more markedly, Epiphany. To those who have seen. The Child, however dimly, however incredulously,. The Time Being, in a sense, the most trying time of all.". WH Auden, "The Time Being: A Christmas Oratorio". Frederick Buechner, "Wishful Thinking". We often see Epiphany as the end of the journey, but really it marks the beginning doesn't it? TS Eliot, "Journey of the Magi".

A tale told by an idiot. Friday, February 17, 2006. A prisoner of her own body for over 25 years, my father's dear cousin Kathy was set free this week. She had resided in what had remained of her body, wracked with Multiple Sclerosis. Suffering in silence and isolation. She suffered for more than 25 years. For most of that time all of the thoughts she had, all of the revelations she may have experienced, all of the visions she may have had - all remained within her. I wonder if she prayed? God bless her&...

A tale told by an idiot. Sunday, October 26, 2008. God will not hold us responsible to understand the mysteries of election, predestination, and the divine sovereignty. The best and safest way to deal with these truths is to raise our eyes to God and in deepest reverence say, "O Lord, Thou knowest." Those things belong to the deep and mysterious Profound of God's omniscience. Prying into them may make theologians, but it will never make saints. AW Tozer, The Pursuit of God.
