Dub-Nine, One Gear, and Two Wheels: Bloomer. Park. Wilted.
http://jonw9.blogspot.com/2013/07/bloomer-park-wilted.html
Dub-Nine, One Gear, and Two Wheels. Returning to simplicity after too long being shifty. 01 July, 2013. Bloomer. Park. Wilted. I don't know how long this will be, so bear with me. Bloomer Park isn't one of my favorite race courses. It isn't that I don't like the race, or the trail, just that the terrain doesn't work well with my hack style of riding. So the week leading in, I wasn't feeling terribly confident or excited. Probably not. But with my history of this race in mind, I went with it. Time to line...

Dub-Nine, One Gear, and Two Wheels: Brighton. Wrecked.
http://jonw9.blogspot.com/2013/08/brighton-wrecked.html
Dub-Nine, One Gear, and Two Wheels. Returning to simplicity after too long being shifty. 02 August, 2013. I just came to the realization that I never posted a report for the Brighton race. It feels like it was a lifetime ago. I guess I will keep it brief, since at my age, my memory ain't what it used to be. During my warm-up, I overheard that a technical rooty section was bypassed, making the lap a mile shorter, and pretty much an all out sprint for 4 laps. It was easy to see Lako had 2 goals in mind....

Dub-Nine, One Gear, and Two Wheels: Barry-Roubaix, 2012 Edition

Dub-Nine, One Gear, and Two Wheels. Returning to simplicity after too long being shifty. 27 March, 2012. Barry-Roubaix, 2012 Edition. This year was my third time racing the Barry-Roubaix, and the third year in a row. My how this race has grown in a short time. After last year's Barry-Roubaix. Two weeks out and I was on the back roads of Barry County, scoping out the new addition and test driving a rather large CX bike on loan from my pal Frosty. The rain continued throughout the night, and into the next ...

Dub-Nine, One Gear, and Two Wheels. Returning to simplicity after too long being shifty. 05 May, 2013. Mud Sweat. Beers. Redemption. This is the fourth time I have competed in this event. Since 2011 I have come out and raced my singlespeed in the hills of Traverse City. Wasn't my best effort. I finished 5th, about 1o minutes behind the winner. Wasn't much better. I bunch of riders missed a poorly marked turn, and I finished in 4th, 5 minutes behind the winner. Still some snow on the hill! I was back to s...

Dub-Nine, One Gear, and Two Wheels: To Hell and Back: Mohican 100
http://jonw9.blogspot.com/2015/06/to-hell-and-back-mohican-100.html
Dub-Nine, One Gear, and Two Wheels. Returning to simplicity after too long being shifty. 22 June, 2015. To Hell and Back: Mohican 100. The good news is that I have waited sufficiently long to write this blog, so my memory of the event has been dulled. For you that means a shorter post. Up before down and back to the finish. The morning was relaxed, the weather was nice and anticipation was high, even if spirits were not. 1.5 miles to downtown was the warm-up. We packed the middle of the s...Mohican singl...

Dub-Nine, One Gear, and Two Wheels. Returning to simplicity after too long being shifty. 13 May, 2015. Cohutta 100: Rain and Shine. There are some of you that have been waiting for this report. I think you might want to seek professional assistance. The rest of you are probably bored during lunch or sitting in the bathroom at work and want to kill a few minutes. This is for you. Starting area. A lot green than home. The start of the pre-ride. Packed up we headed to Blue Ridge, Ga. (4. Full, buzzed, and t...

Dub-Nine, One Gear, and Two Wheels. Returning to simplicity after too long being shifty. 27 May, 2013. Stony Creek. Marathon. Struggle. I was told that I had to writing this post without as much whining as usual. I will do my best. This race has been marked on my calendar for a while. Typically it was worth bonus points, but this year that was not the case. 4 hours and 50 miles is worth exactly the same as 80 minutes. Even so, I have never done well here, and wanted to put on my best effort. Most of us l...

http://jonw9.blogspot.com/2013/05/pontiac-firebird.html
Dub-Nine, One Gear, and Two Wheels. Returning to simplicity after too long being shifty. 02 May, 2013. So, the season has arrived, I skipped 2 or three common season openers before arriving at Pontiac. It felt strange coming into my fist race so late in the season, but a minimal amount of time riding on dirt. Will skipping these warm-up races have a negative impact, or will I be springtime fresh? I arrived at Pontiac Lake not quite as early as usual. It was good to have a shorter commute. Once onto the s...
