Hear those horses… | Geek in the Hills
https://geekinthehills.org/2015/05/28/hear-those-horses
Hear those horses…. May 28, 2015. It’s rapidly approaching race day for Man V Horse. The 22 mile course would be a challenge in itself, even without the cumulative 2000 metre ascent and same again in descent. Add 60 horses charging behind you and that’s one hell of a course! Training has gone well despite a couple of minor setbacks. One final long hilly run this weekend, then I’ll start to taper for the race itself. Will man beat horse in this year’s event? Time shall tell…. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
Where did I go? | Geek in the Hills
https://geekinthehills.org/2015/06/23/where-did-i-go
Where did I go? June 23, 2015. It’s been far too long since I’ve uploaded a blog post here. I blame Twitter – I only signed up for it a couple of months ago ( @. And since then its been all too easy to write very short updates and post photos. So, going back to basics, here are my mountaineering goals for the next 18-24 months:. Summit Kili (Western Breach) and run down. Summit Kinabalu (fully clothed, to avoid some of the hassle recent folk experienced when stripping off on it! Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
Brevent Lemmings | Geek in the Hills
https://geekinthehills.org/2015/07/11/brevent-lemmings
July 11, 2015. A beautiful day walking up Mt Brevent in the Alps, followed by the spectaclr of wtching wing suiters leap off the summit on by one, then later as a group, with Mt Blanc in the background. This was followed by a run back down to Chamonix seeing marmots and ibex further down. I returned to the xhalrt with a bloody knee and palm – a sign id pushed myself just hard enough on day one back in Chamonix! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. VLM 2015 | Geek in the Hills
https://geekinthehills.org/2015/04/30/vlm-2015
April 30, 2015. Sunday was a great day for a race. I’d trained hard and tapered properly for the Virgin Money London Marathon 2015, so all I had to do was turn up on the morning. Approaching the start at Blackheath I spotted one other runner taking the bus. By the train station I spotted a few more. On the platform, a few dozen. On the train, hundreds, and finally as we walked uphill to the start, a sea of thousands. 20 miles came round fast enough, and I knew each step was taking my towards Embankment a...
Run come rain or shine | Geek in the Hills

Run come rain or shine. May 12, 2015. Saturday morning, 0600hrs. The alarm rings, but unlike an office day I’m already wide awake. I’m off to the Lake District for a weekend of running in the hills and camping under the stars. Well-placed sign before a steep hill. The above was done as part of a Bob Graham round recce). Still a few bugs in the system. Entomology, chemical ecology, evidence-based environmentalism and science in general. I like big bugs and I cannot lie. Saturday, 24 January 2015. Geek in the Green. Lessons learned from Superstorm Sandy. Monday, December 10, 2012. Posted by Geek in the Green. More aptly titled, “Lessons learned from an 11 day power outage.” And it goes to show how busy I’ve been since this all happened that I’m only just now getting around to writing this. 1 An efficiently managed freezer has the potential to keep ice through an 11 day power outage. 2 An emergency radio is your best friend. 3 Walking isn’t so bad. Two words: Gas shortage. 4 Decluttering is good.
