Saturday, December 19, 2009. Friday, November 13. Another glorious morning in Rome, bright with a briskness in the air that invigorates the urge to walk. It was on to bus 70 to the Esquiline hill to visit the churches of early Christian Rome. The bus stops right at the Piazza dell’ Esquillino and before you is the rear façade of the church Santa Maria Maggiore. Very early morning arriving at the rear facade of the church. Friday, November 6, 2009. 3 Days to Rome. There are only three days left until we are in Rome. You know when you plan for a trip and you think there is plenty of time- then all of a sudden it is upon you. Yikes! Oh, well, we'll throw a few things in the bag- and we're off! Sunday, November 1, 2009. A week before our Nov. 9 departure. San Carlo del Quattro Fontane. Much of what makes Rome the proud progenitor of it's cultural heritage is the magnificence of it's architecture. The Baroque creations of ...

http://weekinrome.blogspot.com/2009/12/wednesday-nov.html
Friday, December 18, 2009. Wednesday, Nov.11. Adventures begin with the thrust of an idea. Our plans included visiting 5 museums, at a pace of a museum a day, linked with visits to churches for their artwork, architecture and historical interest, then filling the day with enjoying Rome in an unstructured way, letting surprises come to us. Weeks before, Romeo, our B and B host, had secured reservations to the Galleria Borghese. The little electric 116. 8221; or some other sincere but fractured attempt to ...

Sunday, December 20, 2009. Sunday, November 15. Sunday morning and the quiet is astonishing. Outside, on the Via Andrea Doria, you could crawl across its 4 lanes and be in no danger. We were in the mood for a walk around the neighborhood to enjoy the solitude, and were hopeful to find a bakery for our Roman bread fix. The only real activity we found was at a busy corner pasticceria. The bustling pastry shop seemed ideal for a casual stop to enjoy a cioccolata calda. L The bus drops off on the banks of th...

Thursday, December 17, 2009. From Monday Nov. 9, well into Tuesday. And the city that breathes, and its pulse of life that we now know was in large part created by dynastic 16. Century families; among them the Borgheses, Roveres, Pamphilis, and Barberinis, whose thieving popes and conniving relatives at least had the foresight to appreciate and encourage the artists and architects who built the piazzas, the palazzos, the churches and filled them with priceless treasure. To navigate our way to the airport...

http://weekinrome.blogspot.com/2009/12/today-would-be-morning-for-churches-and.html
Friday, December 18, 2009. Today would be a morning for churches, and the afternoon for the Vatican. We were taking our host Romeo’s advice that the time just after 1230 or so is best for a quick entrance to the Museums. After our morning ritual to the Market for bakery snacks, we were fortified for our first shot on the Metro to zip on over to the Piazza del Popolo. Just inside the arch is the grand sweep of the Piazza del Popolo,. One of the biggest squares in Rome,. Crucifixion of St. Peter. Each chap...

A week in Rome....
http://weekinrome.blogspot.com/2009/12/saturday-november-14-what-leisurely.html
Sunday, December 20, 2009. Saturday, November 14. What a leisurely morning! We were feeling very well acquainted with Rome and wanted to approach the rest of our stay pretty informally. We no longer had an itinerary, and were feeling inclined to revisit some places and maybe just wander unto others. The whole area is absorbed in an ancient breath and as you walk a short distance away, you can see the remains of old foundations, walls and columns hidden in overgrown ruts. Actually cruising through its bus...
