性別化創新 (Gendered Innovations, GI) 是 性別化的科技創新 的縮寫，也是國際上性別與科技研究領域的最新發展，其核心意涵為 利用性別分析達到科技的創新發展 ，就是在科技的研發過程中，納入生理性別(sex)與社會性別(gender)的分析視角，促成科學技術與知識的革新。 值得注意的是，所謂科技的 性別化創新 ，並不是指 為女性發展更有效的美白產品 或 為男性發展更長效的威而剛 之類鞏固現有性別關係與性別秩序的創新或研發，而是 為了移除科技工程領域人員、文化、內容性別偏差而有的轉化作為 (Schiebinger, 2008, p.4)。 因此，所謂 性別化創新 的首要條件，乃在 指認科技工程領域中性別不平等 的能力，然後才能據以進行下一步的性別分析，再利用分析結果進行創新研發。 其中八種藥物對 女性所造成的健康威脅遠高於對男性健康的影響 (U.S. GAO, 2001)。 舉工程為例 認為個子矮小的人(大多為女性，但也有許多男性)駕駛 位置不合 ，會導致汽車事故更大的傷害(參考 汽車碰撞試驗用的孕婦假人. Londa Schiebinger在西元2005年創造出 性別化創新 一詞。

許多知識被劃分成男性和女性是因為勞動力 例如 正式就業和無償之家務和照護工作 是根據社會性別化界線區分的。 雖然具體的方法還很分歧，但參與式研究會讓用戶或研究受測者牽涉到某些任務，例如 設定研究目的、收集和處理資料、以及解釋結果 (Gonsalves et al., 2005; Leung et al., 2004; O’Fallon et al., 2002; Greenwood et al., 1993)。 此外，參與式研究也旨在使整個過程從計畫到報告都能讓各方都取得，讓各方都一目了然 (WHO, 2011)。 女性可能有具體的產品需求，例如 月經週期的衛生產品或是運動胸罩 (Vostral, 2008; Faulkner, 2001; Maines, 1999; McGaw, 2003; Cowan, 1983) 男性也可能有具體的產品需求，例如 節育產品 (Oudshoorn, 2003)。 讓用戶 社群決定問題、需求和解決方案的界定並設計替代方案 (Oudshoorn et al., 2003: Oudshoorn et al., 2002)。 Human Ecology, 36 (2).
