An Open Science Experiment in Bioinformatics. Use cases done, now to UMLs and interface mockups. The proposed use cases were agreed upon. Now it is time to generate the UMLs and mockups for the interface. Ian created an interesting concept that can be seen here. Giovanni also added some extra use cases that certainly will enrich the program and can be easily added. Use case 10: GC and other bases composition. Trigger: user clicks on ‘GC composition’ in the ‘features’ or ‘properties’ or ‘color’ menu.

Ruby and Bioinformatics
My first Ruby script (that actually does something useful). We are on a grant writing mode. As I’m not actively participating of the writing per se. I decided to help on the background. We needed something to gather all the references and save them in a format that some software like Endnote was capable of reading. I am currently working at University of Alberta, Dept of Medical Genetics, as a Bioinformatician, while I still hold and appointment as an Adjunct Assistant Professor, at the Dept of Pathology and Molecular Medicine, Queen's University. I have been working with Bioinformatics and related projects since 1995, and this website contains some of the software that I worked on during my scientific career. Some can be accessed from the top menu on this page. This latest design update was finished in April 2012.
