1 medium onion, diced. 2 cloves garlic, minced. 1 teaspoon turmeric (a common spice found in supermarkets). 1½ teaspoon cumin. 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, finely grated. 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil. 1 cup dried lentils. Heat the oil over medium heat in a large frying pan or saucepan. Sauté the onion, garlic, and spices. Add the water and bring to a boil.
