GardenForum: April 2011

http://geoffgardenforum.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Monday, 11 April 2011. Fine weather, growing veg and allotmenteering. I hate to do it, but to quote The Sun. 8211; phew, what a scorcher! The weather this week has been fabulous - if you like warm, sunny days out of keeping in April that is. I guess we'll have to pay for it later on in the year - snow in June? I'm also growing lots of grafted plant. S this year, as I had such great results last year - especially with the aubergines as they were my best ever. In my 'spare' time(! I've been creating a vege...

Saturday, 12 March 2011. Grow Your Own and Edible Garden Show. Wow, what a month it's been. After a slightly quiet and slightly nervous January, where workloads were looking a little low - February exploded into a massive work meltdown. To be honest, in January I was thinking OK, no worries, at least I can spend more time in the garden/on the allotment. As it turns out, at the moment the garden is something that 'exists' somewhere outside my office! I signed up to be a tutor for MyGardenSchool.com. The '...

GardenForum: March 2010

http://geoffgardenforum.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, 27 March 2010. The UK is officially Mediterranean. I can now officially announce that the UK is Mediterranean. No, it has nothing to do with climate change/global warning. That's another kettle of sunshine and raindrops all together. It's all thanks to Garden Bargains and Ideal World. For the last year, these two giants in garden retailing have sold tens of thousands of oleanders, Canary Island palms ( Phoenix canariensis. Links to this post. Gardening in a Changing Climate. GardenForum: January 2011

http://geoffgardenforum.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, 29 January 2011. Raised bed a go-go. OK, not as much progress as I'd hoped, but I have finished filling the second bed and moved the soil where the third one is meant to go. Sadly, I haven't treated the wood for the last two beds, yet - so onwards and upwards - that's a job for today. In fact, now, as soon as I finish scribbling this down. Just finished my RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. And the results are in. Links to this post. Labels: Grow your own. Grow your own VEG. Sunday, 23 January 2011.

Blind Non-Flowering Daffodils | GardenForum Horticulture

http://gardenforumhorticulture.co.uk/blind-daffodils.htm

Blind or non-flowering daffodils. Why don't my daffodils flower? When daffodils and other bulbs don't produce any flowers they are called 'blind'. That is, the flower bud that should have been produced during the previous year, for some reason wasn't or was destroyed. Providing you buy large, good quality bulbs, and plant them correctly as soon as possible, they are guaranteed to flower in their first year since they come with the flower bud already in them. As daffodil bulbs age they go through a lifecy...

Sunday, 14 August 2011. The end of busy Lizzies as we know them? Is it the end of fabulous displays of busy Lizzies like these? I've been doing a lot of question time roadshows across the country recently, and one question that regularly comes up is: "What's wrong with my busy Lizzies - they're all dying? For us gardeners, there are no approved fungicides for its control - so there's nothing we can do once it strikes in our gardens. There is one possible ray of hope.
