Geomatic Guy: A New Year, a New Opportunity
http://geomaticguy.blogspot.com/2010/01/new-year-new-opportunity.html
News and notes from Pacific Geomatic Services and beyond! Friday, January 8, 2010. A New Year, a New Opportunity. Good bye and good riddance to 2009. I don't regret having to endure calendar year 2009 but I am sure glad it is over. And I'm ready for it! 2009 was such a challenging year on so many levels and it is a wonder I came through mentally as well as I did. I don't even think I developed any new ulcers from all of the stress. Here's a quick recap;. It is 2010 and I am not bankrupt. PGS has entered ...
Geomatic Guy: July 2010
http://geomaticguy.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
News and notes from Pacific Geomatic Services and beyond! Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Mount Baker 10,778', in the North Cascades, is the most shoreward mountain in the cascade range. Because of that it gets the most snowfall and holds the record for the highest annual snowfall (95 feet) of any mountain in the contiguous US. Another interesting fact is that Mount Baker is the second most active volcano and the most heavily crevassed mountain in the contiguous US. From the ridge you work your way up and onto...
Geomatic Guy: Questions…..
http://geomaticguy.blogspot.com/2010/01/questions.html
News and notes from Pacific Geomatic Services and beyond! Sunday, January 17, 2010. Seems I have a lot of queries concerning the whys of my life of late so I thought this might be a good blog subject. I’m kind of a dense guy, might be senility, not sure because I wasn’t real bright even back when I had a memory…. What were we discussing? Oh right, brain density. Why do I run? Not only, why do I run, but why do I run far? Here I am, once again, training for one of these blasted marathons. This one seems l...

Geomatic Guy: November 2009
http://geomaticguy.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
News and notes from Pacific Geomatic Services and beyond! Sunday, November 15, 2009. Don't Delete Those Links Yet! I got to thinking last night, "what if some errant reader, who had saved a link to this blog back when I kept it updated, accidentally clicked on that link and happened by". Would they think the blog had been abandoned? Or maybe that the blogger had passed in some gruesome manner via a mad adventure? I am still running:. PGS is still in business:. Until next time,. SailRunClimbRide: On Race and Other Things More Trivial
http://sailrunclimbride.blogspot.com/2012/11/on-race-and-other-things-more-trivial.html
Oh yeah, and drink and write and eat and. Thursday, November 29, 2012. On Race and Other Things More Trivial. No Longer a Marathoner? After seven years of considering myself a marathoner, I might have given it up. I'll probably still run the occasional 26.2, but this fall both the Portland and Seattle Marathon went by on the calendar and I hardly noticed. Pounding the pavement for mile after mile is just losing its appeal. Have I just turned into a trail runner? Should I get rid of all those street shoes?

SailRunClimbRide: December 2009
http://sailrunclimbride.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Oh yeah, and drink and write and eat and. Wednesday, December 16, 2009. The Road. To Recovery. Not the Cormac McCarthy Abomination. Back on the Road. It has officially been 2 weeks since the Seattle Marathon, during which my suspension went out at about mile 21 or so. After doing my chores around the house today (I'm such a loyal house elf! One way to assure solitude on the Burke Gilman Trail is to ride it during a winter monsoon! The Seattle Mariners are threatening to play actual baseball next year.
SailRunClimbRide: Marina Upgrade Rant
http://sailrunclimbride.blogspot.com/2013/02/marina-upgrade-rant.html
Oh yeah, and drink and write and eat and. Wednesday, February 27, 2013. Looking into the future at Port of Everett. Empty, rotting docks. Eleven years ago I bought my first sailboat. You might remember that 11 years ago things were going pretty well, large scale terrorist attacks aside. The economy was still working, and people had this crazy thing called disposable income. The middle class seemed to exist, even, which is a remarkable thing to consider these days. The port quickly burned through their wa...

The Non Project: Political Fast Food. Or, the End of Public Higher Education.
http://gvb-thenonproject.blogspot.com/2010/12/political-fast-food-or-end-of-public.html
Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Political Fast Food. Or, the End of Public Higher Education. I'm slowly coming to grips with the death of journalism. And as a fan of satire, I'm also getting more comfortable with the idea of fake news shows like The Daily Show. Becoming our last best source for reason and logic. Jon Stewart's role in the eventual passage of the stalled 9/11 responder's bill has been compared to Edward R. Murrow's participation in turning public opinion against Joseph McCarth. It's a brilli...

The Non Project: Bike to Work Day Blowback
http://gvb-thenonproject.blogspot.com/2011/05/bike-to-work-day-blowback.html
Wednesday, May 18, 2011. Bike to Work Day Blowback. This Friday (May 20th) is Bike-to-Work Day, which I only know because I made the mistake of reading Danny Westneat's short column on "bike bitterness". This morning. The mistake wasn't in reading the column, actually. It was in reading some of the comments that followed. I don't know why I do that, but I'll save that personal psychology for later. I've covered this over at my Real Running Blog. As for licensing cyclists and/or their bikes, the idea itse...
SailRunClimbRide: August 2009
http://sailrunclimbride.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Oh yeah, and drink and write and eat and. Monday, August 31, 2009. Some of the Important Stuff is in the Parentheses. After a summer full of travel and mayhem, we are back at The Shack, getting settled in and ready for another season of knowledge at The Learning Factory. Several things are happening at once:. Training for the Seattle Marathon has started (I have a workout calendar and everything! The Colleague's birthday is fast approaching ( Remember when she didn't have a website? Note: Of course, the ...
SailRunClimbRide: February 2012
http://sailrunclimbride.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Oh yeah, and drink and write and eat and. Wednesday, February 29, 2012. SailRunClimbRide is back. For now. I'm Back. Sorry. Column (which I know you are all reading religiously anyway.but just in case you aren't, you can click the link and be swept over there instantly.). So instead of working harder to fix the problems with the Real Running blog, I stupidly compounded the problem by starting yet another well-intentioned but doomed blog. The Non Project. So as I was sitting at my desk today feeling guilt...
SailRunClimbRide: Keep 'em Waiting
http://sailrunclimbride.blogspot.com/2012/08/keep-em-waiting.html
Oh yeah, and drink and write and eat and. Sunday, August 19, 2012. Things I Could Have Written About. But moving the boat will create a void and render The Boat Yard just The Yard. We can't have that. So to form I'm in the market for the next boat project. The next project must be on a trailer, must qualify as a day sailor, and must be serviceable from Day One. Editor's Note: I already have it picked out. It's awesome.). The hill from The Boat Yard to the beach. I did try to go for a ride the other day&#...
SailRunClimbRide: Mad Meh, Stand Your Ground, and Golf
http://sailrunclimbride.blogspot.com/2012/03/mad-meh-stand-your-ground-and-golf.html
Oh yeah, and drink and write and eat and. Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Mad Meh, Stand Your Ground, and Golf. A Little Language Usage Complaint. I'm not sure how you would define the phrase "Stand Your Ground," but to me it doesn't mean "seek out people who seem threatening, chase them down, confront them, and then shoot them in 'self-defense.'" But maybe I'm quibbling about nuance. Oh golf. You're so nice to look at. What High Definition Was Made For. Oh yeah. That's the stuff. Pete Campbell going dark?

News and notes from Pacific Geomatic Services and beyond! Monday, October 11, 2010. Let's Talk About Quitting. I have done a lot of things that I really wish that I hadn't. I've taken on a lot of commitments that I really shouldn't have followed through on. I have NEVER actually not followed through on one of these though. until now. Wednesday, July 14, 2010.
