Dean is involved with projects including sea level rise on the Georgia coast. And education and conservation in both Uganda. He holds a B.S. from the University of Georgia in ecology, biology, and marine sciences. In 2009, he completed his M.S. in conservation priority area mapping in ecology at UGA. For this research, Dean worked closely with the Oconee River Land Trust. And Athens Land Trust. National Estuarine Research Reserve System ( NERRS. Inc, and Administrative Assistant at Georgia River Network.

Much of our impetus for the project derived from the pleasure inherent in the concept and the exercise of canoeing the entire navigable length of a river. This we achieved more than once in the course of the survey. We also learned how effective our chosen mode of travel can be, as a way of learning the landscape of the state where we all grew up.
