Geostatistics or Junk Statistics by Consensus?
geostatscam: June 2011
http://geostatscam.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Geostatistics or Junk Statistics by Consensus? Sunday, June 19, 2011. Praise for ASTM Committee E11. Combustion 11, 31-37, 1939-1940. How about that? Visman was already aware of Gould’s work! Gy’s 1967 and 1971 works do refer to Visman but his 1979 Sampling of Particulate Matter. No longer does. On the contrary, Gy praised in his Introduction. Not only Matheron’s theories but also David’s 1977 textbook. Gy’s praise may well be the reason why David blew a fuse when Merks and Merks. And Probable Bias Ranges.
geostatscam: UBC still stuck with geostatistics

Geostatistics or Junk Statistics by Consensus? Thursday, June 28, 2012. UBC still stuck with geostatistics. Professor Dr Georges Matheron. Abuser of applied statistics. Founder of spatial statistics. Professor Dr Georges Matheron was not at all into sharing primary data with his students. Even for his 1965 PhD Thesis he saw fit to cook up a funny pair of minuscule primary data sets. Matheron's primary data sets for 1965 PhD Thesis. Stats for Matheron's 1965 PhD Thesis. Seemed successful under Matheron...

Geostatistics or Junk Statistics by Consensus? Friday, April 13, 2012. When to work with Markov chains. Once upon a time a keen geologist measured the degree of associative dependence between lead and silver in lead ore. Next, he put on paper Formule des minerais connexes. And called it Note statistique No 1. He didn’t report his primary data but did correct an error. In time, he became famous. So much so that he set up the Centre de Géosciences/Géostatistique. Professor Dr George Matheron (1930-2000).

Geostatistics or Junk Statistics by Consensus? Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Why Westray Mine trial was stayed. The methane gas explosion at the Westray Mine. In Plymouth, Nova Scotia, Canada on May 9, 1992 caused the death of 26 miners. Mine managers Gerald Philips and Roger Parry were charged with manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death. The mills of justice ground to a halt when the Crown had failed to give full disclosure of all of its exhibits by November 15, 1994. What piqued my interest was ...

Geostatistics or Junk Statistics by Consensus? Friday, August 24, 2012. Metrology in mining and metallurgy. In its series on Bulk Materials Handling. In 1985. It was called Sampling and Weighing of Bulk Solids. To Dr Martha Piper. And she gave both to Professor Dr Alastair J Sinclair, PEng, PGeo. Dr Piper could have but did not give a copy to Dr M Klawe, her Dean of Science in those days. UBC’s library in 2011 finally put a copy of my book on one of its shelves. Why it took much too lon...Thought that hi...

Merks' Meanderings: Shoes for the Shoemaker

The opinions expressed here are my own, not someone else's. If they seem rational, that's purely coincidental and you are likely reading far too much between the lines. Friday, 14 February 2014. Shoes for the Shoemaker. Consider for example the all-important Eclipse Platform. Project and the perennial concern about the limited contributions it receives. Of course this same concern extends to all projects. We'd all love high-quality contributions associated with each and every Bugzilla report. Of course y...
Behind Bre-X, The Wistleblower's Story: February 2013
http://behindbre-x.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Behind Bre-X, The Wistleblower's Story. Wednesday, February 13, 2013. What's wrong with Matheron's 1965 PhD Thesis? Once upon a time a young geologist in Algiers derived the degree of associative dependence between lead and silver grades of drill core samples. What he didn’t derive were length-weighted average lead and silver grades. Neither did he test for spatial dependence between metal grades of ordered core samples. The geologist did do a bit of applied statistics! That’s long time! As a matter of f...

Behind Bre-X, The Wistleblower's Story. Wednesday, December 5, 2012. Here's an emessage that was transmitted to McGill University on Thursday, August 12th, 2005. Why is it that not a single response has been received? Professor Dr Michel David, who taught at McGill University in the 1970s, wrote the first textbook on geostatistics, in which he cautioned, "This is not a book for professional statisticians". And predicted, ". statisticians will find many unqualified statements. Google "bre-x bogus barren".

The opinions expressed here are my own, not someone else's. If they seem rational, that's purely coincidental and you are likely reading far too much between the lines. Thursday, 21 February 2008. One Committer, One Vote? If all you keen voters out there did the same, you'd carefully read the rules governing Eclipse's Election Process. Following the various links, you'd eventually find this quote in the bylaws:. To me, that hardly seems fair. Though granted, some individuals contribute a great deal a...
Behind Bre-X, The Wistleblower's Story: Flunking his PhD Thesis

Behind Bre-X, The Wistleblower's Story. Thursday, March 14, 2013. Flunking his PhD Thesis. Put it on paper; call it a PhD thesis; get it approved! Simple comme bonjour, n’est-ce pas! But his PhD supervisors at Université de Paris Sorbonne. Did not approve Professor Georges Matheron’s PhD thesis. On the contrary, they wanted to know what I had wanted to know since the Bre-X fraud! Thank goodness French was my very first foreign language! It’s rather silly that the Creator of Geostatistics. Applying Fisher...

The opinions expressed here are my own, not someone else's. If they seem rational, that's purely coincidental and you are likely reading far too much between the lines. Wednesday, 16 January 2013. I recently added something totally cool to EMF. It's so cool, you might want to use it even if you don't use EMF for anything else. You're probably aware that JFace provides tool tip support. I created; you'll need the latest build. It's an RCP application that looks like this:. I used this basic feature to imp...

The opinions expressed here are my own, not someone else's. If they seem rational, that's purely coincidental and you are likely reading far too much between the lines. Tuesday, 13 November 2012. Germany: The Demo Camp Capital of the World. It's the fall demo camp season. If you look at all the scheduled demo camps. You'll see that more than a third are in Germany! If you plan to attend, I'm sure you'll hear something to perk-up your ears and learn something to squirrel away for later.

The opinions expressed here are my own, not someone else's. If they seem rational, that's purely coincidental and you are likely reading far too much between the lines. Wednesday, 25 July 2012. Time Flies Like an Arrow. It's been a long time since last I blogged. Much has happened these past months. EclipseCon was, as always, a huge highlight, providing an opportunity to spend fun times with good friends. I was especially honored to receive the Eclipse Lifetime Contribution Award for 2012. Landscaping and Gardening Information. Flowering cherries While the briefness of their glory has to be acknowledged, cherries really are the hardy spring-flowering trees for temperate climate gardens. I can think of no others, apart from their close Prunus relatives and some of the magnolias that even come close to rivalling flowering cherries for sheer weight of bloom and vibrance of colour. Efficient citizenship as the ability to read and write.”. H G Wells (1866-1946). Why did geoscientists get into geostatistical thinking? Sampling and Statistics Explained. Dr Isobel Clark praised. Andre Journel and others at Fontainebleau who taught her all she knows about the theory of The theory of Regionalized variables.
