Thursday, April 30, 2015. An Inventory of Osprey's Nests on the Tuolumne and Merced Rivers. We can't resist the urge to check the Mother Lode Osprey nests each week when we get a chance to go outdoors. There are at least four of them along the lower reaches of the Tuolumne and Merced Rivers that we've found so far, and a fifth hidden in the forest near Table Mountain in the drainage of the Stanislaus River. There is a nest at the south end of Roberts Ferry Bridge on the Tuolumne River east of Waterford.

Continuing our review of a long summer of bird sightings, we make a stop at China Ranch east of Death Valley National Park. I got a good look at a Western Wood-pewee ( Contopus sordidulus. For the first time, and oddly enough saw it at three different locations over the next two days. The Western Wood-pewee is a common bird across (surprise! But what were they doing out in the barren deserts east of Death Valley National Park?

I was on a series of trips that extended from Canada almost to Mexico, and I found limited time for blogging. I also had trouble coming up with something as dramatic as my last post here, the life and death struggle between the Great Blue Herons and Bald Eagles at Beacon Hill Park.
