I'm doing drawings, loosely inspired by images. From a book of traditional African sculptures. Thought it might help some - and it does. To everyone out there! Glyk] fortune, good luck, happiness, prosperity. The poetry of the reverse. Quite often I find the reverse of an embroidery more. Interesting, and more tender, than the front. These two came with a lot of vintage textiles I bought. Someone gave me that striped linen years ago. It has decemberly words, in her handwriting,. Like "Stollen" (a christmas cake). That's my piece "Possum Paper Dream", on the right, which. Has been touring through Australia for a while already.

Pink does not stink. As you might know, I'm an ardent plant dyer,. Having – so I came to realize – a severe habit. Of looking down my nose at anything not plant dyed. That's reason no.1 for introducing commercial low. Impact textile dyes into my practice. Reason no. 2 is that I feel increasingly allergic. Against the smells of some plant dye stuff (boiled. Alkana lately, for example – had to throw it all. Away unused because I couldn't stand it.). So it will be fusion dye here from now on.

Another swt* in progress. But of course they're kites, really:. Imagination cloth ships.). In my head only, though. Outside: too much sun. My new dye approach of plant dye plus commercial. Dye stuff is fun. The scraps above have been dyed. With black-berries, then took a quick dip in dilluted. Carmine red fabric dye. A little shrill, perhaps – but I like it. And as the heat kept me inside a lot, I've busied. Myself with something I haven't done in a while:. It's all in the shop. Are some of last summer.

There's new stuff in the shop. Autumn leaves mostly - for example this pretty. Old hand sewn hankie pouch. Swt No. 3 again. The "eye" in the center was dull,. So I covered it up. And here's a small old textile I found and dyed -. A handkerchief I guess. Someone liked - or needed -. It dearly enough to mend it over and over again -. Swt No. 2 again. I'm thinking of making a lot of them, by and by. The black-patterned scrap is vintage kimono silk -. Very pleasant, firm material. Going on here, too.

There is an endless net of threads throughout. The universe. The horizontal threads are in space. The vertical threads are in time (.)". Rig Veda, borrowed here. I took pity with the thread ends from my weaving. Experiments - and used them to stitch a fragement. With a red patch. It has a batting of silk mawata "hanky": a bit. Wobbly, but soft and nice and well worth trying. It's in the shop. Together with a few more things. Over the first thread, under the second, over. That's my new pocket loom.
