And, Here.We.Go!: A day in the life...
http://dcpeterson.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-day-in-life.html
And, Here.We.Go! Monday, June 22, 2015. A day in the life. One of the great things about jet lag is being wide awake when nobody else is. One of the great things about being on R&R is that there isn't anything terribly pressing to do. Put those 2 things together and, voila, I have time to write on my blog. Keegan in her natural habitat and Rowen being Rowen. Rowen's music class did rock group performances. Amazing how quickly we adapt to our surroundings. Rowen's award winning pigeon performance. Nurse a...

Semper Ubi Sub Ubi: September 2013
http://southieguys.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Semper Ubi Sub Ubi. Sunday, September 15, 2013. 100-Day Transformation: Day 8. Well, it's Day 8, which means it's been a week into my 100-Day Transformation. Days 4 and 5 were pretty much the same as the previous days - two to three "smoothies" each day with much the same mix of ingredients. Days 6 and 7 change, though. On Thursday (Day 6) I came home from class ( TAX 801. Did I break my own rule about having only "smoothies" for ten days? I've been re-reading Nourishing Traditions. So, for the next peri...

Semper Ubi Sub Ubi: The Adventure Begins...
http://southieguys.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-adventure-begins.html
Semper Ubi Sub Ubi. Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Today was the day for my move to DC/Arlington, VA. Everything went smoothly: airport, flight, landing. Into a cab for a quick ride from DCA. To my temporary apartment at the Slate. Building of Sedona-Slate. A quick check in and unpacking and it, kinda, feels like home - for a while, at least. Here are some pics of the apartment:. After settling in, I decided to explore my new neighborhood a bit. Headed out to find the Rosslyn Metro. Station, but it started rai...

Ramble On - Foreign Service Specialist: Stockholm Apartment
http://rambleonfss.blogspot.com/2014/08/our-apartment.html
Ramble On - Foreign Service Specialist. An Information Management Specialist (IMS) rambling on around the world. Thursday, August 28, 2014. Here's the most important room for friends and family. The little spare bedroom is ready for guests! Apparently many of the local hotels are similarly sized. The price is definitely much better for this room. :-) Yes, the full size bed did fit. We also brought our airbeds so those can be put down elsewhere in the apartment if needed. There's only one power plug in th...

Ramble On - Foreign Service Specialist: June 2015
http://rambleonfss.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Ramble On - Foreign Service Specialist. An Information Management Specialist (IMS) rambling on around the world. Saturday, June 27, 2015. First FS Post - 1 Year Later. I think I prefer getting an email over flag day. I'll get a private moment to digest the information instead of having it shared with everyone like some game show. "Come on down! Oh, have we! We've discovered you can do some really cool things in Europe over an extended weekend if you just go. This map was blank a year ago:. The official l...

Semper Ubi Sub Ubi: First Week in the Foreign Service
http://southieguys.blogspot.com/2015/07/first-week-in-foreign-service.html
Semper Ubi Sub Ubi. Saturday, July 18, 2015. First Week in the Foreign Service. My first week of orientation in the US Foreign Service is done. What was it like? Everyone else I've met at the Department of State has also been kind and courteous. On the shuttle to the Foreign Service Institute in the mornings, I've talked with foreign service officers training for their first tours as well as those getting refreshers and then on their way to their eighth post. It's been fun so far. Bamako, Mali Summer 2017.

Semper Ubi Sub Ubi: First Pack Out Done
http://southieguys.blogspot.com/2015/07/first-pack-out-done.html
Semper Ubi Sub Ubi. Friday, July 3, 2015. First Pack Out Done. A "15 Cube" air freight shipping box. The scale is important, since I get 250 pounds - including the weight of the containers. All boxed up and ready to go! In this picture, L to R: Albania, Quebec, France, British Virgin Islands (from Tortola), the HRC banner, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It was a lovely, and touching, party with many of my friends from the area. A nice send off to DC and then points onward. Charleston, South Carolina.

Semper Ubi Sub Ubi: FSS Orientation: Day 1
http://southieguys.blogspot.com/2015/07/fss-orientation-day-1.html
Semper Ubi Sub Ubi. Monday, July 13, 2015. FSS Orientation: Day 1. So, today was the day. Something that started years ago finally came to pass. Today was the first day of Foreign Service Orientation (specialists) for me and 80 other men and women from all different backgrounds, specialties, and areas. Stock photo from the internet). Talking with a new colleague, I realized that I forgot my passport. Yep, I forgot my passport. I put it specifically out on the counter to remember to bring it, and don'...

And, Here.We.Go!: February 2014
http://dcpeterson.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
And, Here.We.Go! Friday, February 28, 2014. And now the fun can really begin! Tuesday was Flag Day and I apologize to everyone that I didn't post sooner. Life was understandably crazy following the ceremony. Only Keegan was able to come with us to the ceremony so there was a mad dash afterward to pick up Rowen and tell her our great news and then rush off to the after party with David's classmates. And the winner is. DAKAR, SENEGAL! Women selling fresh fish (among other things) at one of the local markets.
