Hand Cut Joints: Mitre / Miter
http://handcutjoints.blogspot.com/p/mitre-miter.html
Mitre joints connect the ends of components at different angles. An example would be the corners of picture frames, where the corner is a right angle, and the mitre joint is made at forty five degrees (assuming the connecting sides are both the same width). Mitre joints are inherently weak, since the mating surfaces will be end grain, and so many variations have been developed to add strength to the 'simple mitre'. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Hand Cut Joints: Mortise and Tenon
http://handcutjoints.blogspot.com/p/mortise-and-tennon.html
A mortise and tenon joint, joins two components through the fitting of a 'peg' (the tenon), in a 'hole' (the mortise). The two components are usually perpendicular to each other, although this is not always the case. There are numerous variants, all of which make strong joints due to the mechanical interface and the pair of long grain to long grain glue surfaces present. Stub Mortise and Tenon. Hand Cut Joints: February 2015
http://handcutjoints.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, 28 February 2015. Due to a bad back, I've had a chance, albeit whist lying down, to add some joints to the site. Not all are completed, as typing on a tablet is somewhat slower than using a keyboard, but I'm trying to do a bit each day. I've also added a 'Shop 2 Support' store to the WOmadeOD website, which I hope you will take a look at (link in the menu above). Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Hand Cut Joints: Lap
http://handcutjoints.blogspot.com/p/lap-joints.html
Lap joints connect components by reducing the thickness of individual components at the joint, so that they can be stacked, yet remain all in plane with each other.
