So lookee what I received via e-mail today: An invitation to "Meet Bearemy from the Build-A-Bear Workshop! So this is Bearemy:. Dudes, Bearemy looks freakemy. Coincidence that "Bearemy" rhymes with "Enemy"? And why do I feel an immediate dislike, nearing Barney-the-Purple-Annoying-Dinosaur levels, for this mascot? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). No, I’m not talking about that terrible (yet strangely intriguing) monstrosity involving several layers of ten-inch diameter hamburger patties or meat loaf patties, with mashed potatoes smeared in between as filling, and on top as frosting. (Google “meat cake” for images.amazingly appalling stuff.). I am actually referring to the meat cake, or yuk beng. Of my youth. This yuk beng. After googling ...

Pearls of Conwoocious musings in (hopefully) 200 words or less. Tuesday, August 30, 2011. SF Street Food Fest 2011. I heart street food, or as SF's La Cocina. Would say, "I Cart Street Food". Street food is casual, no-fuss, portable, yummy, and (usually) budget-friendly. Spanning four blocks on Folsom Street in the Mission, with over 75 booths and food carts, it was one hell of a block party. Oh the crowds, oh the humanity, oh the food. See http:/ www.sfstreetfoodfest.com/list.php. Sweet Potato Pie Waffle.

Pearls of Conwoocious musings in (hopefully) 200 words or less. Sunday, March 28, 2010. Rice Cooker Adventures: Hotpot in my Rice Pot. I am a “rice bucket” ( fan tung. In Cantonese) which means I loves me my rice. So when I moved away from home (albeit temporarily), I knew that in addition to a fridge and microwave, I had to have a rice cooker. I bought a 6 cup version that came with a steaming rack, and knew I would be set. After challenging the Steamed Meat Cake. Scallions, and enoki. Ho on the Go.

Pearls of Conwoocious musings in (hopefully) 200 words or less. Friday, August 19, 2011. Yeah, it's not traditional, but it seemed pretty straightforward. The recipe made a HUGE pot, about 6 times the amount I ordered from the takeout place. (I measured this by actually storing my tikka masala in identical plastic containers that the takeout comes in.yeah I do takeout a lot and I hoard those containers like they were gold - or chocolate-dipped bacon.). I pretty much kept to the recipe, though I did add a...

Thanks to the prevalence of man-purses here, I too have acquired a purse for everyday use. Gaspety gasp! Another reason why the man-purse has gained mainstream acceptance may also be attributed, I think, to the scores of men forced to carry their female partners’ purses out in public. It’s an interesting sight to see men (ahem! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I am a snarky...

Pearls of Conwoocious musings in (hopefully) 200 words or less. Sunday, April 6, 2008. Is it time to freshen up your “kill me now” mime for spring? Don’t know what a “kill me now” mime is? Are you a “finger across the throat”? This gesture is quite elegant, easy and doesn’t require complicated hand formations. (Some people are still getting used to their opposable thumbs, thank you very much.) However, this gesture has been used in different contexts. It could mean “Cut! This gesture, of course, is limit...

Pearls of Conwoocious musings in (hopefully) 200 words or less. Sunday, February 20, 2011. I have a soft spot for murder mysteries (all hail Agatha Christie) so naturally my board game of choice is "Clue".and one of my beloved guilty secrets is the 1985 movie "Clue", which, frankly, is a terrible movie, but is so bad in its campy, over-the-top-ness, that it's good. So imagine my delight when San Francisco's Boxcar Theatre. Thursday, February 10, 2011. I am a Japan-o-phile, in love with anything and every...
