More Train, Bus, Bike, Foot - Less Car. Thursday, October 27, 2011. Water Taxi saves the Commute during Alaskan Way Viaduct demolition. OK, so maybe the demolition of the Viaduct isn't quite like this (why, oh why can't we import Godzilla to do the job? But those in Seattle have been feeling the pinch of traffic caused by the closure of the southern section of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. In the mornings, and just added it in the evenings to avoid sitting on a bus on the West Seattle Bridge. Seattle Bicycle ...

More Train, Bus, Bike, Foot - Less Car. Friday, May 18, 2012. Bike to Work and School Day! Well, folks, it's Bike to Work Day. And Bike to School Day. Today I hadn't realized it was bike to school day until I got to the West Seattle Water Taxi. Dock in West Seattle and started chatting with a dad taking the boat with his daughter who was riding to school today. I'm really happy to see so local schools embracing the day for encouraging children cycling to school. Hardly. In fact, I think I'd have been...

More Train, Bus, Bike, Foot - Less Car. Thursday, June 10, 2010. If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention! In the summer of 2000, I took a month-long vacation. On the first day, I stopped off in Eugene, OR to meet up with a gal I met online for lunch at the Saturday Market and a bike ride. She had a sticker on her bike's rear rack with the quote in the title. Last night, my wife had the video below show up on her Facebook feed:. Are we outraged yet? More importantly, what are we going to do?

THE DISCOVERIES AND MUSINGS OF A PACIFIC NORTHWEST NATURALIST. Monday, February 23, 2009. Discovery Park Docent Naturalist Program - Class of 2009. We learned much about the history of the park as well as the lay out. I have been frequenting this park for many years now and am amazed at the little corners I have yet to explore or the bits of history I have yet to learn. I am looking forward to more adventures to come. Posted by Maurie Kirschner. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

THE DISCOVERIES AND MUSINGS OF A PACIFIC NORTHWEST NATURALIST. Monday, February 23, 2009. The Swans of the Union Bay Natural Area. Trumpeter Swans are graceful, elegant, and huge. They are hard to ignore, even for people who don't usually take a second look at birds. Now people were pausing in their jogs and walks to stop and appreciate the new Lake Washington residents. Evening at Constellation Park - West Seattle. An evening walk, yesterday, took me to Constellation Park during a low tide. I'm drawn to the tide pools much like the Sanderlings that feed among them. They feed on little invertebrates; I feed on discoveries and the sights and sounds of nature. Links to this post.

THE DISCOVERIES AND MUSINGS OF A PACIFIC NORTHWEST NATURALIST. Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Lessons from the Birds. The leucistic male continued to show up and even brought another brood to the feeder the next year. Eventually he didn't show up and it was obvious he was missing. His bright feathers among his darker fellows, the way he would dance around on the branches seeming to show off to his mate and young - his presence was missed and I still remember him and his offspring with fondness. I had a flicker ...

Next I stuck my finger into it (it felt like whipped cream) and tasted it and. You know what I did, right? But wait there's more! Not only di...
