In a recent series,. Hudock layers up and scrapes down his paintings. In an on-going series he takes trowels and even sanding belts to his surfaces. The scratches reveal the layers, often twenty or more, that he has built up, and the works oscillate between surface and depth. Layers of paint register layers of time, and scratched surfaces hint at processes of accumulation. Visual and Critical Studies. School of the Art Institute of Chicago. October 15, 2010. The urban environment inspires my work. In essence painting is about mark making. While an anonymous mark of graffiti might be interesting I am more intrigued by the way it becomes covered up. Layers of paint applied and layers removed are evidence of time, a process of accumulation and elimination, creation and destruction, the record of a history. Represented by GF Contemporary. 2014 Someguy - 3907 23rd Street, San Francisco, CA 94114. The Meaning of Words. In my works on paper, I'm exploring the printed word as a visual representation of information, attempting to uncover new meaning in what is slowly becoming an outdated form. Crossing out the entirety of a written text while exposing only selected words changes the perception of the original message. Revealing word frequency adds another layer and opens new paths to understanding. Napa Valley Museum CA. 2016 Cut Up/Cut Out.
