Tales from the Gold Coast: Amen.

http://www.ghanaianglass.blogspot.com/2009/09/amen.html

Tales from the Gold Coast. You must eat an elephant one bite at a time.". Friday, September 11, 2009. I've found that along with the normal getting to know you questions such as, "What is your name? Where are you from? Where are you staying in Ghana? Etc, also comes "So what church do you belong to? My family goes to church every Sunday (for the most part) and they even hold a Saturday morning devotion where they gather together in the living room while my host dad reads passages from the bible for them ...

Tales from the Gold Coast

http://www.ghanaianglass.blogspot.com/2009/10/terribly-sorry-ive-been-lacking-here.html

Tales from the Gold Coast. You must eat an elephant one bite at a time.". Thursday, October 15, 2009. Terribly sorry I've been lacking here, but I've been a busy woman. Besides that little European interlude, I've been going to classes and also working at my internship at Self Help Initiative Support Services (SISS). I know it is a very cynical view of the state of Ghana right now, but seeing a slum can really change one's outlook. October 16, 2009 at 12:37 AM. This comment has been removed by the author.

17 Weeks in Africa. Obruni How Are You? Archive for October, 2009. Mole’s Grand (ish) finale. On October 11, 2009 by dharmabum. The real purpose of Mole National Park is to offer adventuresome tourists the opportunity to see elephants in their natural habitat. Yes, the park advertises monkey, warthog, leopard, and tropic bird sightings but no one actually goes to Mole to see rare species of birds. Birds are boring; elephants are awesome. Who could ever question our story’s integrity? By the time we left ...

17 Weeks in Africa. Obruni How Are You? Archive for September, 2009. The Hottest Day So Far. On September 17, 2009 by dharmabum. This post is sponsored by Guinness Ghana Breweries, Limited. In fact, the entire country of Ghana appears to be sponsored by Guinness, with a few local cell phone companies battling for second billing. (I’m partial to Tigo, my wireless company of choice). Gotten lost on a tro tro, visited a woodcarving village, gone to the Aburi Botanical Gardens. To school, it took me longer to.

17 Weeks in Africa. Obruni How Are You? Archive for August, 2009. 60 cedis later…. On August 27, 2009 by dharmabum. So here I am, midday, sitting in a building called the Jones Quarterly Building and nicknamed by Ghanaian students as “tingy-tingy.” I have no idea why that is–but I like it. This is a computer lab (the only one of its kind? I got robbed. In a taxi. On the way to school. The thing about cell phones here is that you buy your cell phone and your SIM card separately. 17 Weeks in Africa. Obruni How Are You? Archive for November, 2009. On November 26, 2009 by dharmabum. You wouldn’t know it by the weather here the. Or dry season has arrived and with it a dry, oppressive, all-encompassing heat. The sun feels as though it has moved several inches closer to the earth in the past few weeks. The only real relief comes from a day at the beach or a day lying on my bed with my beloved fan hovering over me. Clearly, Thanksgiving will be a lot different for me this year. In ...

17 Weeks in Africa. Obruni How Are You? 7 American Girls, Part II. On October 5, 2009 by dharmabum. 8220;Excuse me, sir? Your chicken seems to be sliding…”. We were directed to a taxi queue and taken to the other side of Kumasi where we would get tickets on the Metro Mass Transit bus to Kumasi. At that time, our worst-case scenario was that we would get stranded in Kumasi. We forged ahead. Let’s describe a Metro Mass Transit bus, shall we? Now pretend you aren’t going 20 blocks in that city bus but are i...

don't miss a beat

Don't miss a beat. My ghanaian experience in 15,120,000 heartbeats. Sunday, January 17, 2010. Hey white people, it's an experience okay? I've been home for 13 days. After Togo, I had a few days in Ghana to take my last exams, go to Carmen's last show and say goodbyes. On the 12th of December we left for Burkina Faso. Calls We stayed with a family in Bobo-Dioulasso, played with the children all day, played cards, played music, ate an amazing vegetarian lunch they prepared for us, and enjoyed the the heat.
