Workshop on Literacy, Reading and Numeracy Promotion in 2016. Reading Clubs for Basic Schools. At the Basic level, GBDC promotes reading through the formation of reading clubs, story-telling sessions and quizzes on books, drama and spelling drills. The objective of the clubs is to get the children interested in stories and reading, and to begin to see reading as an enjoyable activity. Secondly, having acquired the habit of reading, it is hoped it will translate into better academic performance.
