The Eagle and The Weasel. Postcards from Uncanny Valley. Sweet Affliction (the book). I'd prefer not to. Month: April, 2015. April 29, 2015. So it’s been one year since. I’m sometimes asked for my thoughts. On why Montreal seems to be a hotbed of literary activity. My way of thinking about it centres on the conditions of possibility–what makes it possible to be a writer here? And what makes it worthwhile? Montreal launch at Librairie D&Q, with MAD SNACKS by Preservation Society. From 1-3, which will be a...

Thursday, October 11, 2007. Awe and Nordic Melancholy ("nordiskt vemod"): Jan Johansson: Jazz på Svenska. I won't call this a jazz album, since that's gotten me into trouble before, but I will say that Jazz på Svenska. On my discman, over which I could hear only the rhythm of the bus's windshield wipers and the occasional crackle of the radio. For the duration of the ride, that music was the only thing in the world, and the most beautiful thing. Then I got off. Tuesday, October 09, 2007. Performed by a d...

Music I Didn't Grow Out Of: July 2008
http://querenciazine.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 15, 2008. True, True, True" by Ken Parker, circa late '60s. I have no idea who the woman pictured on this video is, other than that she is not Ken Parker. I found this song on a compilation years ago and had it on a favourite spirit-lifting collection of ska, reggae, and rocksteady tracks that I employed many a grim November, but that went missing a while back. Of all the music on it, this was the track I missed the most, and I'm glad to be listening to it again. Saturday, July 05, 2008.

Somewhere in the fall of 2005, my friend Nic blew back into town from a summer spent treeplanting, where he'd fallen in love and, quite recently, had his heart broken. He showed up at my house with an expression of despondency and surrender. It made me feel ten times worse! It was like being raked over coals! Turner recounts atte...
