Dr Sock Writes Here: A Perfect Sunday

http://gideonsockpuppet.blogspot.com/2015/04/a-perfect-sunday.html

Dr Sock Writes Here. Sunday, April 19, 2015. Today was a perfect Sunday. I started the day by sleeping in. Sometimes after a long week at work, sleeping in is the best thing ever. Then Rob cooked brunch for us, an omelette, and it was delicious. We sat around lazily sipping coffee and chatting. Throughout the day, I checked my phone frequently, almost obsessively, looking for messages. We have two more grandchildren on the way, and one of them could arrive any day now. I am one excited grandma! Subscribe...

Dr Sock Writes Here: May 2015

http://gideonsockpuppet.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Dr Sock Writes Here. Monday, May 18, 2015. We also planted a container of pansies and more wave petunias in pipe planters on the back patio. Rob built the pipe planters out of ABS plumbing pipe. They have a concrete base. In past years we have planted trailing strawberries and cherry tomatoes in the pipe planters, but I like them best for flowers, especially trailing ones. I have always loved to garden ever since I was a teen. Wherever I have lived, I have always created a garden. Friday, May 1, 2015.

Dr Sock Writes Here: Helping the Earth for my Grandkids

http://gideonsockpuppet.blogspot.com/2015/06/helping-earth-for-my-grandkids.html

Dr Sock Writes Here. Sunday, June 28, 2015. Helping the Earth for my Grandkids. Grow some of my own food in a backyard garden. Use square foot gardening method (intensive rotated plots). Compost vegetable waste and yard waste. Use compost to build the soil. Avoid the use of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and inorganic fertilizers. Use the least amount of water necessary in the yard and garden. When possible, choose food grown locally, humanely, and organically. Bring leftovers home from restaurant.

Dr Sock Writes Here: December 2014

http://gideonsockpuppet.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Dr Sock Writes Here. Sunday, December 28, 2014. I had never skied at that hill before. It was much longer and steeper than Warren's Hill. I loved going fast down the big hill. The rope tow also was an exciting novelty, and I quickly caught the hang of it. Suddenly, I heard my Dad shouting my name. "Fall down! He yelled. "Fall down! Why was he telling me to fall down? My Dad has been gone for nearly eleven years now. I still miss him very much, especially on days like today that I spend at the ski hill.

Dr Sock Writes Here. Thursday, April 23, 2015. La Casa del Pintor. Tonight I would like to feature a painting that I love, posted by a member of my online group. This amazing work is by Alan Fioravante from Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is "La Casa del Pintor" (The House of the Painter). It is a plein air oil painting. Aren't his colours fabulous? Sunday, April 19, 2015. Throughout the day, I checked my phone frequently, almost obsessively, looking for messages. We have two more grandchildren on the wa...

Is anyone alive out there? | Our New Nest

https://ournewnest.wordpress.com/2009/09/28/is-anyone-alive-out-there

Is anyone alive out there? September 28, 2009 at 10:14 pm. To those out there who may have been following this blog (hello…? Anyone out there…? You may have thought that I’d forgotten all about it… indeed, it’s been well over a month since my last post! But nope, I’m still here, and I thought I’d better get an update in before September is over! Does it seem like time is flying by for anyone else? 8211; the only kids we’ve got are of the furry variety! And now that I’ve made my excuses for the exte...

One of Life's Little Surprises: April 2016

http://oneoflifeslittlesurprises.blogspot.com/2016_04_01_archive.html

One of Life's Little Surprises. Sunday, April 24, 2016. More Changes and More Challenges. Last fall, I saw evidence of Jim's difficulties with spatial relationships. When we replaced our bedroom carpet last September , I distinctly remember my shock and dismay at his inability to comprehend the simplest of explanations (by the installer) of how the carpet would be cut around the built in dresser drawers in the walk-in-closet. Finally the installer turned to me and said "I'll let you explain it". We're ho...

One of Life's Little Surprises: May 2016

http://oneoflifeslittlesurprises.blogspot.com/2016_05_01_archive.html

One of Life's Little Surprises. Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Jim's riding lawnmower essentially died, requiring the purchase of a new one. I was busy this past week and weekend getting ready for and co-hosting a wedding shower for one of my nieces, as well as helping my elderly mother. Normally I would have accompanied him to Lowe's, just to be in a supportive role. But circumstances did not allow for this. Jim actually seems stable at the moment. Will he stay this way for a long time? Friday, May 13, 2016.

One of Life's Little Surprises: July 2016

http://oneoflifeslittlesurprises.blogspot.com/2016_07_01_archive.html

One of Life's Little Surprises. Saturday, July 23, 2016. Will This Journey Make Me a Better Person? One of the ways that I deal with uncertainty in life is to read. I research and read everything I can about the topic in question. Many readers will remember the pre-computer days, when researching meant driving to your university or public library, sorting through a card catalogue, and then searching through the stacks for the pertinent books or journal articles. Life is so much easier now! This really go...

One of Life's Little Surprises: January 2017

http://oneoflifeslittlesurprises.blogspot.com/2017_01_01_archive.html

One of Life's Little Surprises. Friday, January 27, 2017. Will I Do This Again Next Year? A good friend of mine, who understands our struggles, asked me a couple of weeks ago if I regretted our trip to FL. At the time I said no, that in spite of the challenges, it was worth it. Now I am not so sure. Will I still want to do this again next year? And, I would have to come up with an excuse as to why we were flying home and having Mike drive our car. (Maybe a "mom emergency"? I'm still thinking this through.

http://oneoflifeslittlesurprises.blogspot.com/2016_03_01_archive.html

One of Life's Little Surprises. Thursday, March 31, 2016. Waking up to one of our last days here; we leave on Sunday morning. Looks like snow in the forecast to welcome us back home. Soon enough, though, it will warm up to more seasonable temperatures. But this morning we are waking up to a gorgeous sunrise over the ocean. Mother nature at her best. We purposely chose to leave on Sunday, hoping to avoid the mad rush of other snowbirds leaving at the end of the month. We'll do two overnights to get ho...

One of Life's Little Surprises. Monday, September 26, 2016. Leaf Your Troubles Behind. A little play on words. This is a picture of Jim, sweeping the driveway and the yard(! With a large sweep broom. I think I have mentioned before how meticulous he is with our yard. If you look closely, you may see a few leaves on the grass. He will get every one of them! The other day we were leaving for the grocery store. As I pulled out of the garage and started down the driveway, he yelled "wait! I was certain that ...

One of Life's Little Surprises: Competing Needs

http://oneoflifeslittlesurprises.blogspot.com/2016/12/competing-needs.html

One of Life's Little Surprises. Thursday, December 8, 2016. I've written before about my elderly mom who lives about 40 minutes north of me. She is mentally very sharp, but pretty limited with her mobility. She has chosen to stay in her handicapped accessible apartment in a small rural town that she proudly calls home. All well and good, but it has been a balancing act to make sure her needs are met, and to make sure she is safe. Competing needs: Jim's, my mom's, and my brother who has some disabilities&...

http://oneoflifeslittlesurprises.blogspot.com/2016_08_01_archive.html

One of Life's Little Surprises. Wednesday, August 31, 2016. I couldn't find you! Jim loves to keep our yard in perfect shape. He mows with our garden tractor on a regular basis, cutting it high so that the grass stays nice and green. I've mentioned in past posts that for some of the outdoor work I have needed to get involved. It has given me a new appreciation for all that he has done over the years to keep our property looking so nice. Jim: "But I couldn't find you! I didn't know where you were! Me: "I'...

Life In A Northern Town. It felt like the world would freeze.". Wednesday, May 5, 2010. So long, and thanks for all the fish. And so it ends. It's an ordinary end to what's been an extraordinary journey. To paraphrase Celine Dion the blog will go on - I think - so keep looking in, but this particular chapter has now reached its end. Thanks for sharing the journey with me; you've been great company. Monday, May 3, 2010. Two days to go. It, and it's the same in my class. Saturday, May 1, 2010. Only time wi...
