the little giffords: September 2011

One homeschool family's adventures near and far. September 21, 2011. If we were all rockstars. Apparently the mood struck today. He showed me this little ditty, and I asked him if it would be ok for me to share it here. It's not that I think it's particularly great in its structure - frankly, many of his others are better. But I love the message so so much. If we all were rockstars, who would be the crowd? If we all were doctors, who would be the patients? The sound of sadness rolls through my head.

One homeschool family's adventures near and far. January 25, 2013. Week Two (and a half) update. The last few weeks in Nicaragua have been very good to us. We've seen lots of Granada sunrises, thanks to Abel, who has decided that 5:30 seems like a really good Nicaraguan wake-up time. We made a trip down to San Juan del Sur, a popular little surf village about an hour and a half from Granada. The kids had so much fun playing on the beach for the day. Mmmmm Sand is yummy! How can you be praying for us?

One homeschool family's adventures near and far. March 18, 2013. This special little girl is Cristal. Cristal has Cerebral Palsy. If you look closely, Cristal is grasping a small piece of candy in her hand. This is Crystal's home. Crystal is moving her arm from the elbow up to reach her mother's hand. The first time we met Cristal, my heart shattered. She lives in Malacatoya, about which I posted the other day. As Melissa was praying - speaking healing and life over her and her body, and declaring that t...

the little giffords: October 2011

One homeschool family's adventures near and far. October 25, 2011. In what is becoming an annual tradition. Sarah the Great came over to paint pumpkins with the little giffords a couple weeks ago. As you can see this is quite a messy activity, so the kids all put on their yucky clothes and had a blast covering. Their pumpkins in paint. Posted by little giffords. My little guy is 9 months old! At 9 months, Cade still doesn't crawl. He sort of (and only barely, really) scoots around the floor after thi...

One homeschool family's adventures near and far. February 12, 2013. A day in the life. We've been here for over 6 weeks now, and I've been getting a lot of questions from the folks at home about what a typical day looks like for us. When there is no team in town, Sean goes out to meet with area pastors in order to determine where the needs are, what the needs are, and to get a sense for the vision that these men (and some times women) have for their churches, their villages and this region. In an earlier...

One homeschool family's adventures near and far. March 31, 2012. A stay in the mountains. I've recently heard it said that the best days end with the dirtiest clothes. By that measure (or any other), we had a GREAT time on our mini-vacation to the Cherokee, NC side of the Smoky Mountain National Park. There was a sleeping loft with 3 mattresses, and a futon downstairs. Roomy enough even for our crew! Elliott just loved running around on the bank - barefoot. Naturally. We did some hiking. You can't see it...

One homeschool family's adventures near and far. December 28, 2011. We love to go to Dollywood, and the kids and I have been so many times this season that I sort of take it for granted - I always fail to take my camera and document our visit. But this fall we went with Sean's grandmother, and I took my camera along. We had PERFECT fall weather (it was the very end of October but so warm! And we had a perfect day. Cade got to ride the Ducks and Pigs with his sister - and he loved it! December 27, 2011.

One homeschool family's adventures near and far. January 25, 2012. My baby boy has hit the one-year-mark, and we celebrated last weekend with family and good friends. (Wait - the family is good, too. That didn't sound right, did it? We didn't have a cake - other than the little number "1" I made for him to smash - and instead I made (dairy-free! Cupcakes for everyone. Aren't these toppers and grass wrappers adorable? I got them from a girl on Etsy - perfect for our baby Gator! He loved opening presents!
