Gifting Trees...: The Black Palash
https://giftingtrees.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-black-palash.html
Sandan (Desmodium Oojeinensis/तिवस, तिनसा, काळा-पळस) is a medium sized deciduous tree. Though very beautiful, the tree is very much neglected in urban area. It bears numerous flowers which are pinkish-white in colour, borne in short racemes. The new leaves add more beauty to it. Leaves are trifoliate, with large, rigidly leathery leaflets. Which means 'black Palash'. Sandan also has numerous uses. The wood is hard, tough, close-grained, elastic and durable. It is highly valued in. The tree comes up readi...

https://giftingtrees.blogspot.com/2015/06/compost-from-garbage-to-garden.html
Compost : From Garbage to Garden. From last post, we have come to know that for solid waste management, there is no throwing ‘away’. The solid waste can be out of our sight, but not out of our environment. Everything we are doing to manage the waste is directly or indirectly affecting us and our ecosystem through pollution. It may be a long process, but I can’t think of any one reason not to make compost for use in your garden. It’s free, simple to do and made from a resource that is neve...There isnR...

A blog about urban ecology, environmental science generally, energy issues, modern naturalism, and what it means to be a mostly hairless primate in a world dominated by the same. Sunday, September 25, 2011. Good News, Bad News. One of the drawbacks of working in an environmental field and paying attention to the news in these fields, is that you don't often come into contact with much in the way of good news. In the last few weeks, the Franklin's Bumblebee ( Bombus franklini. They look like this. It's di...

A blog about urban ecology, environmental science generally, energy issues, modern naturalism, and what it means to be a mostly hairless primate in a world dominated by the same. Friday, November 8, 2013. Hello again, kiddos. Been a while, hasn't it? I have been quite busy PhDing, and in particular working on an NSF grant. Exciting times. I do have several blog posts I want to write, on the illusion of linearity in human systems, and other things. Today, however, I created my ORCID account.

A blog about urban ecology, environmental science generally, energy issues, modern naturalism, and what it means to be a mostly hairless primate in a world dominated by the same. Tuesday, March 26, 2013. So I haven't posted in rather a long while. Mostly because I graduated from my Master's program, got married, was busy working on research, crammed everything I owned into a remarkably small steel box, and then moved across the country with two cats. Did I mention I don't drive? I do have an amazing wife.

Monday, December 9, 2013. Journals, Open Access, and the Cost of Knowledge. An article on slashdot. Brought to my attention that Elsevier- Academic Publisher and Intellectual Gangster- is going after authors for sharing their own work. Of many publishers are like, I was appalled (note, they have improved, slightly, since then).

A blog about urban ecology, environmental science generally, energy issues, modern naturalism, and what it means to be a mostly hairless primate in a world dominated by the same. Wednesday, October 5, 2011. Today has been a day of themes emerging from the apparent randomness of the various talks. One hopes that this was planned by the organizers, but one never really knows. Every Day is Environment Day! A tree-lover needs no occasion for tree plantation. This 31st May, my father, Dr Prashant Phalak retired from his services. As per his wish, he wanted to plant 58 trees on his retirement. This idea was so fascinating that his office colleagues and staff also decided to volunteer for the same. So, around 63 saplings were planted by a group of 18 self-motivated tree lovers. The home grown saplings of Banyan. Here are the snapshots of the event. Posted by Paresh Prashant Phalak.
