My Garden on Gardenista – My Tiny Plot. Christmas & Holidays. My Garden on Gardenista. I was asked by Michelle the editor at Gardenista.com to write a piece about my kitchen garden here in Portland. I was thrilled and started working on it right away. I love to read Gardenista. It’s like jumping into a world full of lovely, perfect garden ideas that I wished I had thought of but didn’t. So I was honoured to be asked to contribute. Never miss a new post. Larr; The Chelsea Greenhouses – Oh! June 24, 2015.

Photographing In My Greenhouse – My Tiny Plot. Christmas & Holidays. Photographing In My Greenhouse. At this time of year it’s perfect for messing around in the greenhouse. It’s not too hot yet and on these cloudy and windy days it’s best to be cocooned up in the warmth of the house than battling it out sowing in the soil. I have planted Potatoes, Onion sets and Garlic outside. I’ve also sown, Spinach, Arugula (Rocket) and Radish and some Carrots that didn’t show! A Hat for Hanging: I do wear this hat, j...

Stuff I’ve Learned While ‘Gardening with Kids’ – My Tiny Plot. Christmas & Holidays. Stuff I’ve Learned While ‘Gardening with Kids’. I was recently asked to write some ‘Gardening with Kids’ tips for our pre-school’s newsletter. After I wrote them I realised that they were more ‘non-tips’ than actual tips so I’m sharing them here. Let them use real tools. When I’m digging they dig, and when I’m raking they rake. If hands are too tiny I give them spoons to dig with. Don’t expect too much. Go with the flow.

Easing into my Gardening Community – My Tiny Plot. Christmas & Holidays. Easing into my Gardening Community. I’m a somewhat private individual. I say ‘somewhat’ because I’m not shy, that’s not how I’d describe myself. But I’m also not that person who is comfortable walking up to someone I’ve never met before and introducing myself. I’m a slow burn. Yes, that’s about right. I took the Master Gardener. I joined in 2006! What are the issues that local gardeners deal with? I’m already a member of a Fac...

The Chelsea Greenhouses – Oh! So Stylish – My Tiny Plot. Christmas & Holidays. The Chelsea Greenhouses – Oh! A full greenhouse is a happy greenhouse. This one is bursting with colour and seating options. I do wish my greenhouse was just a tiny bit wider so that I could budge in a chair and a table. Then I could truly move in! And see the child’s lawnmover peeking out on the left? And who doesn’t want a Heuchera in a kettle? I might try a red wine coloured variety in a dusky green kettle. I have a Victori...

Chelsea 2015 – The Trends – My Tiny Plot. Christmas & Holidays. Chelsea 2015 – The Trends. Chelsea Garden Show is like Fashion Week for plants. The visitors are not only looking to be wowed by the skill and daring of the show gardens but they’re paying close attention to what’s in and what’s out this year. So here’s my take on this seasons trends for both planting and styling. Is orange the new black? Lysimachia ‘Beaujolais’ figures in many of the show gardens this year. As are (inexplicably) Lupins.
