Surface Tension – #adailyselfreflection

Exploring artistic process and creativity. Gillian Holding: Exhibitions and Work. The Gallery Sep 2010-Dec 2010. The Gallery Jan 2011-Mar 2011. The Gallery March 2012-Jun 2012. 29 June 2015 •. I read recently that Rothko used to use paint diluted with turps on unprimed canvas; I thought this was an interesting thing to do at a time when other artists exploring staining effects would have been experimenting with the newly arrived acrylic paints. Felt pens – #adailyselfreflection

Exploring artistic process and creativity. Gillian Holding: Exhibitions and Work. The Gallery Sep 2010-Dec 2010. The Gallery Jan 2011-Mar 2011. The Gallery March 2012-Jun 2012. 24 June 2015 •. Screen shot (felt pen). Some book I was reading the other day called for a commitment by the reader-artist to draw from life a minimum of 30 minutes a day. I’m wary of such commitments: dangers of perfectionism facilitating feelings of failure if the promise can’t be kept on a lazy day. Two colours and old tissue.
Shellac experiments – #adailyselfreflection

Exploring artistic process and creativity. Gillian Holding: Exhibitions and Work. The Gallery Sep 2010-Dec 2010. The Gallery Jan 2011-Mar 2011. The Gallery March 2012-Jun 2012. 16 June 2015 •. Study on shellac (drama extract). Been meaning for ages to try out painting with oil on paper sized with shellac instead of oil primer. It’s supposed to be a nice fast surface and it probably would have been had I not used a rough paper. Click to email (Opens in new window). Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).

Another Medal for Mozambique is on the Way | Reading and Writing
https://rowenadunn.wordpress.com/2014/07/31/another-medal-for-mozambique-is-on-the-way
Another Medal for Mozambique is on the Way. There was a lot of excitement when the team got back in the car after the bout. But it was all go last night; no time for hanging about at the SECC, but straight off to Hampden Park for some athletics. I can’t let the dinner I had at the Village last night pass unremarked; a perfect exemplar of Scottish canteen: chilli con carne, roast potatoes with mixed corn and green beans. The alternative was a beefburger in a bread roll, with roast potatoes. July 31, 2014.

The Mysteries of Pin Collecting – Glasgow 2014. It’s only over the last couple of days that I have understood the depth of my naivety. Pin collecting is a Big Deal at the Games. I might go as far as to suggest that some people have got a little carried away and ever do slightly obsessive about it. Share on Facebook (Opens in new window). A Clydesider in Edinburgh – Glasgow 2014. Now that many of the competitions are over or nearing conclusion, the thoughts of the Team are turning towards making the very most of their experience in Scotland. This has included shopping (for a surprisingly wide range of eclectic items), spending nights in the hot spots of the City, and of doing a tour to Edinburgh. The street theatre my Team saw in the Royal Mile made a big impression on them. There is. Share on Facebook (Opens in new window). August 2, 2014.

I am intrigued by people – who are they, where do they come from, what are they thinking, feeling, being, doing? What lies beneath their surface? Recently, I have been working on abstract portraits, to explore how light, shadow and form write their story. Milian, 2015, Bronze,. 29 x 20 x 21 cm. C) Gillian Hodes - Artist - 2015.

More flux stuff and mess stuff and not-knowing and not-thinking stuff. One useful discovery: oil paint mixed up with alkyd resin and stored in glass jars for two years is still amazingly usable.
