On the 20th of February 2008, my 42 year old husband and father of our four children took his own life. I found it difficult to accept these offers until the idea of asking that these funds be donated to organisations that fight suicide in our community came to me. Of course, I could not do this alone however Gwayne and I were fortunate to have many supportive and capable friends and I approached them to help bring this idea to fruition and, as such, GilSA inc (Gilgandra Suicide Awareness) was formed.

The People behind GilSA. GilSA consists of a group of Gilgandra locals who were prompted to help to raise the level of awareness of suicide. With the successful 2011 “Cooee Crusade” raising much needed funds to assist, we feel that we have, to some extent, achieved a greater local awareness of suicide and an understanding/tolerance of the many facets of mental health and how they can affect people’s lives.
