Before 2008, Giltbrook had two pubs, a Post-office, a chip shop, a paper shop, and a garage, but then along came Ikea, quickly followed by Giltbrook Retail Park. Giltbrook also has some very nice surrounding countryside, lets try and keep it that way! Giltbrook is in Nottinghamshire, U.K. and situated just off the A610, approx. 12 km. west of Nottingham, and 2.5 km west of junction 26 off the M1. O-O-o- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -. Walker Street Demolition - Eastwood Comprehensive Lower School

Walker Street School Demolition : Eastwood : Nottingham. This was the school where most of the children from Eastwood attended. This school was renamed the Eastwood Comprehensive Lower School, but closed on the 19th. July 2004. The pupils were transferred to the Upper School on Mansfield Road, (Hall Park). Walker Street school was demolished in January 2005. Part of science block, (pictured below), was set on fire the day after the school closed, this photograph was taken the following day.

Eastwood - Nottinghamshire - UK. Eastwood in Nottinghamshire UK, is internationally known for being the birthplace of author, poet, and artist, D.H. Lawrence. 1885 - 1930. See the link below, for more information on Lawrence's early life in Eastwood. Eastwood is situated approximately 13 km west of Nottingham, and is 3 km west of junction 26 of the M1 motorway. It is a former mining area, the local mines have now all closed, being replaced by industrial estates, to provide employment for the locals.

DH Lawrence 1885 - 1930. The Trent Tower overlooks the beautiful grounds of Nottingham University. The Trent building, and tower, were named after Lord Trent, (Sir Jesse Boot - founder of Boots Chemists), who donated the land to build the University. It is near this point that the statue of D.H. Lawrence stands. The DH. Lawrence Statue. This life size statue of D.H. Lawrence, can be found outside the Law and Social Sciences building.

DH Lawrence 1885 - 1930. Durban House Heritage Centre. The centre is situated on Mansfield Road, at Eastwood, on the corner of the junction with Greenhills Road, it is only a short walk from D.H. Lawrence's birthplace, and Eastwood's town centre. Durban House has been fully renovated, reopening in 1998, and now contains 'talking' exhibits of the life and times of Lawrence, and also the original court copies of Lawrence's most controversial novel, Lady Chatterley's Lover.
