Our Current Photo Album. Buy Three Years in a 12-foot Boat. Three Years in a 12-foot Boat. Small Craft Advisor Magazine. Thursday, January 31, 2013. Dear friends and family,. One weekend Steve participated in a club regatta. Four boats raced. Steve came in second place, much aided by Thurston’s. They’re both noisy, messy and always needing more attention and more money to be spent on them! We passed Christmas and New Years of 2012 alone, in good spirits, with little observance. Michals-Brown Adventures: Lessons from Cold, Wet Camping
http://michalsbrown.blogspot.com/2016/10/lessons-from-cold-wet-camping.html
Saturday, October 29, 2016. Lessons from Cold, Wet Camping. Some lessons learned from a little Columb us Day weekend. That turned a lot rainier than expected. My sailing rig was useless in the light headwind, and was in the way on the port coaming, forcing me to paddle only on the starboard side. After hot coffee and oatmeal, I packed up and loaded the boat, only changing into dry clothes just before leaving. What did I learn, or relearn? The most useful light I have ever owned. Put that thing on you...
Michals-Brown Adventures: June 2012
http://michalsbrown.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 30, 2012. Around Cape Cod: Day 5. Provincetown: the bar we grounded on is the light diagonal line extending from inside the middle of Long Point. The dike we walked runs from inside end of Long Point to the edge of downtown. I slept a little late, convinced we would be staying in Provincetown this day, come what may. I climbed out, refreshed, at about seven to find we were aground on a bar a little distance from the beach. We ate breakfast and read while the rain pattered occasionally.
Michals-Brown Adventures: September 2013
http://michalsbrown.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 29, 2013. Nemasket River, Saturday, September 21st. We launched on the Nemasket where it crosses the east-west road on the bottom right. The Nemasket runs 5 miles further, then empties into the Taunton River at upper left. I've been thinking about the Nemasket River ever since, on a float trip. Two winters ago, I passed its mouth where it enters the Taunton River. But on. That was all the push I needed. We were late getting off at Oliver Mills on Saturday, September twenty-first, partly...

Saturday, January 12, 2013. Christmas in El Paso. Been quiet here, I know. Off-season. So no appologies for a non-boat post: our Christmas trip to El Paso, TX. Gathered in the home of our hosts, Mary Helen and Art and their son Owen, were us and our three boys, Teresa and Robert and their two kids, and the Pater and Mater Familias, Ed and Vivian. Brother Ed and his wife Sheryl, and brother Chris and his wife Glenda couldn't get away. Prickly pear and the strange, gangly ocotillo. If this isn't exciting e...
Michals-Brown Adventures: Fairhaven to Martha's Vineyard
http://michalsbrown.blogspot.com/2015/09/fairhaven-to-marthas-vineyard.html
Tuesday, September 1, 2015. Fairhaven to Martha's Vineyard. My only sailing trip this season was occasioned by a family friend with a teenage son. Eric is a small-boat racing sailor, but wanted to see the more relaxed, recreational side of sailing. I, for my part, do not usually “go sailing,” but sail to places—usually over a period of days. Terns- I think- in a feeding frenzy. West Island is a nice little destination. In itself; mostly wild salt marsh and meadow. Is this a waterspout? Eric plots us a co...
Michals-Brown Adventures: March 2012
http://michalsbrown.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 1, 2012. Long Pond in February. I have now been out on the water in every month of the year except January. Mind you, I keep telling myself I have nothing to prove- and then I go out and prove things. "Do I contradict myself? Then I contradict myself. I am large, I contain multitudes." (Ralph Waldo Emerson). I had planned several winter trips without accomplishing any: a daytime float in. This would not only be my official sail for February, but also the first time. Sailed in over a year.
Michals-Brown Adventures: Kayak Overnight
http://michalsbrown.blogspot.com/2014/08/kayak-overnight.html
Friday, August 8, 2014. The white line shows my rough track. I've never traveled overnight by kayak. Last winter I planned an overnight using my two-man kayak, Serendipity. Even going as far as loading gear into the drybag- but circumstances prevented. I still wanted to go kayak camping, and it occurred to me that, with the lighter gear requirements of summer camping, I might be able to cram enough stuff into my single-seater, Musketaquid. But Google Earth showed this particular bit of river bank to be u...
Michals-Brown Adventures: April 2014
http://michalsbrown.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Fall River to Prudence Island. Surprise sailed from the Taunton River at top right to Potter's Cove at middle left. The middle of the week was a whirlwind of activity getting Surprise. My cold-and-wet-weather-boat- ready for sea. On a lark, I hurriedly stuck my kayak sail on her tail as a mizzen. Then patched the ugliest of the raw wood with epoxy, patched her leaky roof, haphazardly patched the worst of her mainsail, and saw to her gear. I raised the anchor about 5am and headed ...

Tuesday, April 3, 2012. Monday, March 19, 2012. We finally renovated the kitchen! Here are some pictures of what the kitchen used to look like. Giovedì 5 gennaio 2017. Let's START Something NEW!
