A Year in a Gippsland Garden. Discovering a hidden haven in the Latrobe Valley, Victoria, Australia. 8216;Tis the season to be frantic! December 24, 2011. Just taking advantage of a short break between preparations and festivities to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. I mustn’t gloat, but we did spend some of the day at the Sunny Creek Organic Berry Farm picking copious amounts of juicy berries in the sun, to bring back and enjoy this afternoon. Oh, that actually is gloating isn’t it? A peaceful holid...

A Year in a Gippsland Garden. Discovering a hidden haven in the Latrobe Valley, Victoria, Australia. January 1, 2012. I am not a big one for New Year’s resolutions, but I do feel reflective as one year ends and another one begins. 2011 has been an odd year for me and this is going to be quite a personal post. Bodium Castle in England. Australian Yellow Admiral butterfly. I was becoming resentful of the intrusion but didn’t think there was a way out. A Year in a Gippsland Garden. Discovering a hidden haven in the Latrobe Valley, Victoria, Australia. Garlic and the Clay Man. July 18, 2011. It is a little disheartening as a novice gardener to fail at growing something and later read that it is one of the easiest ‘set and forget’ plants to grow. In fact, I won’t tell you how many websites I’ve just visited that start out with a variation along the lines of “Garlic is so simple to grow that. Can do it.”. Anyone except muggins it seems. Yep My soil can ho...

A Year in a Gippsland Garden. Discovering a hidden haven in the Latrobe Valley, Victoria, Australia. Melbourne Royal Botanical Gardens – Part I. December 29, 2011. Despite a fairly short visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Melbourne yesterday I managed to take an unreasoable amount of photos. It was a bit hard to resist because I love visiting these gardens and it was a perfect summery day. I just wish I had more time to wander! A view over the Ornamental Lake. As do lots of Black Swans. Has recently...

A Year in a Gippsland Garden. Discovering a hidden haven in the Latrobe Valley, Victoria, Australia. November 10, 2011. Boo its hay fever season! Is this rye grass? I think so.but I really can't tell for sure! The weather bureau did warn us that the wettest winter and spring for many a year would lead to a bad year for hay fever, and they certainly didn’t lie. Defending the much maligned wattle. Annual Blue/Winter Grass, She Oak, Bahia Grass, Couch Grass. Bermuda grass), Bottlebrush (callistemon). London...

In Art Lies My Heart: Roses
http://inartliesmyheart.blogspot.com/2011/04/roses.html
In Art Lies My Heart. Apr 29, 2011. As recently published in The Pâdapa Times, I am in love with roses. With the spring in, I thought it’s right time to introduce some to Plantville. Well, today is the day of few words, so I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. I have no idea what cultivars these roses are - thanks to people at nursery who are not concerned about all that silly (according to them) details. I wish I knew their names - I mean their individual identities. Posted by Chandramouli S. Im sur...

In Art Lies My Heart. Mar 29, 2009. The Unexpected… Laziness for good. May be some of you are rolling your eyes on seeing the title, “Of course, he’s gonna talk about another flower that bloomed in his garden UNEXPECTEDLY. Okay, so what time? Ermmm… It’s not the unexpected. It’s the Amaryllis again. It bloomed again! And then, the pot looked really pathetic. Even the leaves looked sick and all that. Then I decided to repot it. Thyme and A Half. City Girl Starts Farm Garden. About the author…. Enter the bees…. Living and learning →. October 23, 2010. Well, when it finally arrives (if you live in Melbourne like me)! When I left for work yesterday morning, I watered the zucchini seeds germinating on my window sill and there was nothing of note in the little pot … 29 degrees later and by the time I got home at 5.30 look what was waiting for me! Thyme and A Half. City Girl Starts Farm Garden. About the author…. The Day of the Triffids. Moving into winter… →. March 24, 2011. Have I mentioned we have stock now? Well we do – 50 ewes, two rams (Roger Ramjet and Gordon Ram-sey) and 9 cows (I think) that are in calf. Does this make us bonafide farmers? It’s been harvest time around the farm – picking all the tomatoes, herbs and bloody spaghetti squash that overtook everything! Now I know why Winnie the Poo got in trouble. 1kgs Orange Sweet Potato.

A Year in a Gippsland Garden. Discovering a hidden haven in the Latrobe Valley, Victoria, Australia. Mothballing the GippyGarden blog. March 31, 2012. I’m not posting much (well, at all really) at the moment, so it’s time to put the GippyGarden blog in mothballs, at least for a time.
