Give and Take Pictures. Scotland was born in a town nestled against farmland on the outskirts of the Philadelphia suburbs. He discovered the camera as a child, but didn’t explore it seriously until his studies in philosophy left him feeling detached and unable to communicate with the world around him. After spending a year studying philosophy at Oxford University, Scotland turned to photography to deal with the ideas he found incomplete in the classroom.
