Giving Wisely?: Government or Church?

http://givingwisely.blogspot.com/2009/02/government-or-church.html

Wednesday, February 11, 2009. In my book I make the point that Governements by thier very nature are not able to give in ways to truly help the poor. In impoverished countries, the Christian organizations that are empowering the local Church and applying the RAISE principles are the organizations that bring real and lasting change. Governmental spending just can't compare. Read here: http:/ www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/matthew parris/article5400568.ece. February 25, 2009 at 3:40 PM.

Giving Wisely?: Generous or Sacrificial Giving? Both - and then more

http://givingwisely.blogspot.com/2009/01/generous-or-sacrificial-giving-both-and.html

Wednesday, January 21, 2009. Generous or Sacrificial Giving? Both - and then more. I did have one question and that is if you distinguish between generous giving and sacrificial giving. Thanks for writing the book. Generous simply means: “liberal in giving – unselfish.”. Sacrifice by definition means: to give up something of value for the sake of something of greater value. So what are we giving up? Would the poor mock us if they knew what it was we were giving up for their sake? I do not think this is t...

Giving Wisely?: Our Comfort or Their Life?

Thursday, January 29, 2009. Our Comfort or Their Life? My Daughter wrote this last week for her English Class and Read it in front of the Class. I was proud of her boldness, but mostly for her great use satire and sarcasm. I wonder where she got that. January 23, 2009. Our Comfort or their life? What is really important in life? Is it stuff, the way we look, our own selfish pleasures, or is it helping people in need? That marriage is going to last a long time! Did you know that to provide clean water for...

And you’ve been a part of my family’s life for several years through the prison’s Angel Tree project and I would like to thank you on behalf of my children, James and Victoria and myself. My next question is that I’m about ready to be released back in the community on 5.15.2008. Oregon State Penitentiary (OSP). He wi...

Spear's Sphere: The Ramona Falls

http://jonathanspear.blogspot.com/2009/01/ramona-falls.html

Musings and thoughts from Jonathan Spear. Wednesday, January 28, 2009. The blue skies and clear view of Mt. Hood which towered 8000 feet above our heads were welcome sights. It has been an extremely wet winter – actually a snowy winter where we were now walking - with patches of snow three feet deep at elevations barely above 3000 feet - and just a week shy of May. I walked toward the bridge at the base of the falls, lost in the moment of such superb beauty. Joe and Nathan laid him carefully in the seat,...

When I was young I would often go into the living room with big questions for my Dad to answer. 8220;Dad, can a person lose his salvation? 8220;That’s a good question. Spear's Sphere: Don't Mess with my Christmas

http://jonathanspear.blogspot.com/2007/12/dont-mess-with-my-christmas.html

Musings and thoughts from Jonathan Spear. Friday, December 7, 2007. Don't Mess with my Christmas. Is it really better to give…? 8220;It is more blessed to give than to receive.”. There is not a one of us who has not heard these words. Usually the guy who quotes this is wanting something from us revealing the fact that he actually believes that it is more blessed to receive. Otherwise, why is he not giving to me – if indeed it is so blessed to give? I dare you to go find this verse in the Bible. Why?

Spear's Sphere: November 2007

Musings and thoughts from Jonathan Spear. Friday, November 16, 2007. Find out how much God has given you and from it take what you need; the remainder is needed by others.". We owned a couple thousand acres just to the west of Meridian Creek. Just across the creek, our friends and neighbors, the Eastmans, owned an almost identical farm of 2,000 acres. We grew the same crops and raised the same animals. They had 4 kids, the same ages as the kids in our family; problem was, the one my age was a. I saw Mr&#...

Musings and thoughts from Jonathan Spear. Friday, May 2, 2008. The Ultimate Runner's High. I just came across this old story from a few years back. But with the recent events in Tibet I thought it might be of interest to those of you who are really bored. The Ultimate Runner’s High. Runners are a different breed.
