I LOVE RED: October 2014
http://glassprimitif.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Monday, 6 October 2014. This weekend I will be taking part in Settle Storytelling Festival (11th and 12th October) at The Makers' Market. In Settle Social Club. I'm really looking forward to this event - it was really good last year with story tellers at every venue around the town. So, the kiln is on, the glass is hot and I'll have plenty of new stock. Hope to see you there. Jo X. Location: Settle, Settle, North Yorkshire BD24 9DW, UK. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Find Us on Facebook. FUSED GLASS ON ETSY.
I LOVE RED: August 2014
http://glassprimitif.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, 28 August 2014. Chapel Allerton - one year on. I forgot to post that I will be at Chapel Allerton Festival. In Leeds this Saturday selling hand made glass. I can't believe it's been a year since I was there but I hope it is as brilliant as it was last year. I will be bringing a selection of my Scandi Birds which have now been redesigned to make them more bird-like (I gave them a longer tail). They did terrifically well at Strid Woods last weekend and I have been busy making replacements. At the...
I LOVE RED: Making Plans
http://glassprimitif.blogspot.com/2015/02/making-plans.html
Sunday, 15 February 2015. At the end of each year, when I have finished my last event, I always tell myself that I will have plenty of time to make new glass during January and February and even take some time to develop new ideas and test out new materials. It has never happened and this year is no exception. So I have reined in my outgoings by setting a budget for each expense. This means I have cut down on buying magazines and books and keeping a record of my mileage. If, like me, you are a small busi...
I LOVE RED: March 2015
http://glassprimitif.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Monday, 2 March 2015. I was chatting to one of our resident artists at work the other day and she said that she really looked forward to Mondays as she spent Sunday in anticipation of getting back to her studio. Well I like Mondays too. The Old Bath House, Harlow Carr. Once I get back from Harlow Carr I will spend the rest of the day back in the studio creating more glass for an exhibition application with a deadline of the end of March (! I'd better get busy then. I LOVE RED: It's Show Time
http://glassprimitif.blogspot.com/2015/04/its-show-time.html
Wednesday, 29 April 2015. January and February are the months that I spend applying for fairs, events and exhibitions. March to May are the months that I find out if my glass has been accepted - or not. It's always a case of "you win some, you lose some" and I'm pleased to say that I have only had one rejection so far this year (so we won't talk about that)! 14 April - 10 May Glass and Ceramics exhibition at Just Makers The Old Bath House RHS Harlow Carr North Yorkshire. Art in the pen.

Vintage Blue Studio: Dont fight with your cusinart.
http://vintagebluestudio.blogspot.com/2008/01/dont-fight-with-your-cusinart.html
Sunday, January 13, 2008. Dont fight with your cusinart. That is my lesson for the day. Last Sunday I was taking the Cuisinart blade out of the dishwasher and oops! I cut my left thumb open. Dumb. I ended up with 7 stitches. The moral of the story is to look first, then reach in. I'm off to celebrate the Giant's winning! Posted by Vintage Blue Studio. Sorry about the cut! Lampwork Glass Beads, Playing With Fire: What's sludge got to do with it?
http://isinglassdesign.blogspot.com/2008/05/whats-sludge-got-to-do-with-it.html
Wednesday, May 7, 2008. What's sludge got to do with it? Well, here I go again, waxing on about sludge, bead release, whatever you want to call it. I have some strong opinions on the subject, but I still don't have all the answers! Sludge is that clay-like stuff that a mandrel is dipped in to keep the bead from sticking to the steel. There are a lot of different kinds made, and I have tried quite a few. Here's my run-down:. So why get all the sludge out, anyway? Some people don't, so why should you?
Lampwork Glass Beads, Playing With Fire: July 2015
http://isinglassdesign.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 28, 2015. What's in a Name? Just a short little bit of something- how about naming all those lampwork glass beads I make? Well, I don't normally name individual beads unless something just hits me. I figure the person who wants to wear the wee talisman will want to name it her (or sometimes his) self. But I can name a series or style of bead so- here goes. A 'mandala' bead has eight points- for the four directions and then one bump between those. I often find 'The Circle Game'. Chrysalis' b...
Lampwork Glass Beads, Playing With Fire: Lampwork Glass Bead Rescue and Repair
http://isinglassdesign.blogspot.com/2011/07/lampwork-glass-bead-rescue-and-repair.html
Monday, July 11, 2011. Lampwork Glass Bead Rescue and Repair. Here's my newest observation- wind is the enemy at outdoor shows. Well, not really a new observation, but still important. I was reminded of this recently when the wind grabbed my table and flipped it completely over onto my beads, which were now on concrete. The result? NOTE: Your safety is your own concern. I am not recommending that you try any of these procedures, just telling you what I have done. * * * * *. Here's what I do:. 3) Let the ...
Lampwork Glass Beads, Playing With Fire: Ten (or so) Things You Shouldn't Do With Glass
http://isinglassdesign.blogspot.com/2008/04/ten-or-so-things-you-shouldnt-do-with.html
Thursday, April 10, 2008. Ten (or so) Things You Shouldn't Do With Glass. Ok, so I'm assuming you've gotten the general rundown on the safety rules of working with hot glass. You know- wear proper eyewear, ventilate properly, and wear a mask when needed. Please get a good book or go to http:/ www.lampworketc.com/. If you don't know about these things and be safe! 4) Don't wear false fingernails. Ok, I didn't do this, but a friend did, and it wasn't pretty. Remember, the fire on your torch is hot&...5) Do...
Lampwork Glass Beads, Playing With Fire: Making Disk Beads
http://isinglassdesign.blogspot.com/2008/03/making-disk-beads.html
Sunday, March 9, 2008. Another in a series of basic techniques, here are some disk-making tips and techniques:. Be sure each layer of glass you add adheres well to the layer below it. The glass must be wrapped firmly on the previous layer as you spin the bead. Push the hot glass onto the disk as you add it to make the layers adhere to each other nicely. Make sure the layers of glass are adhering all the way around, and there are no gaps between the layers. Making a basic disk:. If necessary, the disk can...
Lampwork Glass Beads, Playing With Fire: Hollow Lampwork Glass Beads
http://isinglassdesign.blogspot.com/2008/09/hollow-lampwork-glass-beads.html
Sunday, September 28, 2008. Hollow Lampwork Glass Beads. There are two ways that hollow beads are generally made. You can build two straight disks, or you can build two conical disks. Generally straight disks seem to be preferred, as it is difficult to keep cones from touching the mandrel, and straight disks can be more easily shaped, manipulated and flattened with tools as you go. Remember to keep flashing your whole bead in the flame frequently so that it will not cool too much and break apart. Check i...
