About twenty years ago I was diagnosed with glaucoma. It began as an acute attack sending me to the emergency department on a number of occasions, but by the time I sat in the waiting room for a few hours, the early symptoms were gone, and general on-call doctors found nothing wrong. I was told that it was most likely a migraine headache, and indeed I did suffer serious headaches during these attacks. The last "headache" resulted in a diagnosis - one that had the potential to change my life forever.

There I lay in the darkened room, shivering under the blanket – tired, frightened, and in pain, with no clue what the problem really was yet. The eye physician arrived shortly after that and went about doing whatever they do – the testing, the lights, and so on – it took a long time – many different eye drops, many sharp flashes of light coming through scopes, more drops more testing, and then … more of the drops that stung. Distances are difficult to judge now. I'm always concerned that vehicles or bicycles (when I can see them) are closer than I actually think they are . plus, I can't determine or judge the speed any longer because the vehicles aren't clear enough to me. Extremely blurred vision with halos. Pain and swelling around eyes and forehead. My father was checked a few years after. I was diagnosed, and he too had Glaucoma, but he had a milder type that was easily controlled, and never had any severe attacks. He was diagnosed because of my diagnosis, and was started on eye drop treatment right away. Both girls, and their children will continue to be tested (and treated if necessary) throughout their lifetime for Glaucoma. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

緑内障の予防～緑内障の進行を止める予防

イメージとしては、眼の中が瞳が緑色になる嘘どうなんでしょう。緑内障全体の６割７割のケースが、この原発正常眼圧緑内障(NTG) タイプに当たります。原発開放隅角緑内障とは、房水の出口である隅角顔の正面からは見えない角膜と虹彩の根元が交わる部分上の図参照が広いケースのもので、フィルターのような役割を果たしている線維柱帯上の図参照が目詰まりを起こして眼圧を上げてしまいます。眼圧が正常範囲 10 21mmHg にも関わらず視野の欠損が起きる緑内障で、日本人に多く、緑内障の7割がこの緑内障だと言われています。このページの上でも記述しましたが、現在、緑内障を発症する全体の６割７割の人が原発正常眼圧緑内障(NTG) という病名らしいです。この原発正常眼圧緑内障(NTG) って、眼圧が正常の範囲 10 21mmHg であっても発症するタイプです。目の様々なトラブルを考える時に、目は目、身体は身体だと分けて考えるのは間違いだと、私は思っています。
