The Abbey was founded circa. 1192 and is situated about two miles from the village in a tranquil valley of the Water of Luce. The south transept is a well-preserved example of 13th-century Cistercian church architecture whilst the chapter house was built around 1500 and is still roofed and entire. Visitors can see fine architectural features and the Chapter House also boasts excellent acoustics. For details of opening hours and admission charges, click here. Glenluce is on the A75 Gretna to Stranraer road and is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes from the M6 at Carlisle. From Ayr, Glasgow and the Central Belt, take the highly scenic A77 coast road to Stranraer and turn off for the A75 heading to Dumfries a mile before entering Stranraer.
