Ramblings of a Global Citizen: March 2011
http://global-citizen-01.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Join me in my wanderings around the globe via these online ramblings in far off places. Saturday, 26 March 2011. The Sepik: Anniversary of the Chief. The original inauguration back in 2007. In 2005 I was seeking out a traditional village in the Sepik River. Mouth vicinity to participate in a new tourism project. My father-in-law, living in Madang. Professor of Linguistics at Sydney University. August and Peter taking me to Watam for the first time late in 2005. Men’s houses are covered in sago palm...
Ramblings of a Global Citizen: Japan: Krazy Kit Kats!
http://global-citizen-01.blogspot.com/2012/05/japan-krazy-kit-kats.html
Join me in my wanderings around the globe via these online ramblings in far off places. Thursday, 17 May 2012. Japan: Krazy Kit Kats! This is a topic that has reached many blogs in recent years, the crazy funky flavours of Japanese Kit Kats. The greatest blog effort I have come across is “Jen Ken’s Kit Kat Blog”. Not just a page but an entire blog dedicated to those “out there” Japanese Kit Kats (a blog which after several years of going strong seems to have waned? But as I, like many visitors to Japan.
Ramblings of a Global Citizen: Russian Far East: Kuril Island Wilderness
http://global-citizen-01.blogspot.com/2011/07/russian-far-east-kuril-island.html
Join me in my wanderings around the globe via these online ramblings in far off places. Monday, 18 July 2011. Russian Far East: Kuril Island Wilderness. Stretch between Hokkaido in Japan’s north, up to the Kamchatka Peninsula. That stretches off the Siberian mainland in the Sea of Okhotsk. All of the Kuril Islands are currently part of Russia and have controversially been that way since the end of World War II in 1945. Much like Sakhalin. From the previous post. The Russian’s have recently reactiva...
Ramblings of a Global Citizen: November 2010
http://global-citizen-01.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Join me in my wanderings around the globe via these online ramblings in far off places. Tuesday, 9 November 2010. Asmat to Timika: Papua Contrasts. Continued from Go West: Indonesian Papua. Made in Makassar these boats are the boat of choice in the Asmat. With my GPS, nautical charts, Google Earth images and other tools, I had a distinct advantage over my guide, who was acting very suspicious and insisting we go somewhere different to where I needed to go…………. To Owus Village by Speed Boat. The mosques w...
Ramblings of a Global Citizen: June 2011
http://global-citizen-01.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Join me in my wanderings around the globe via these online ramblings in far off places. Sunday, 19 June 2011. One of my first blog posts, almost exactly one year ago, was about a weekend in Bali. I spend a lot of weekends in Bali. As Bali is a good hub point to access more remote parts of the Indonesian archipelago such as West Sumba. And a bottle of Bintang. In their hand. Terrorist attacks on Kuta’s nightclub strip. The memorial to the lives lost during the 2002 Terrorist bombings in Bali. And the cent...

travel for the over 60's: In the various ports
http://frolickingoldies.blogspot.com/2012/10/in-various-ports.html
Finding interesting stuff to do! Friday, October 5, 2012. In the various ports. Adelaide: a quiet town 'till we got there. Freemantle. Definitely worth a longer visit. University town with Perth up the freeway. The area famous for Murray River wines. Yes, Tony bought the duck and kookaburra whistles which were used to find each other in shopping centres! He was the kookaburra! No high rise here and mostly the original architecture. We liked it. Welcome to Indonesia. What else do you do on a rainy day?

Finding interesting stuff to do! Tuesday, September 28, 2010. If you're wondering why the blog has slowed somewhat it's because we've been forced to slow down. A Caesar Salad was apparently the last straw for Tone's gall bladder! This is what an emergency zip looks like. No consideration for the cosmetic appearance. We will however keep the post coming on whatever interesting stuff we stumble upon. Links to this post. Monday, September 20, 2010. Links to this post. Tuesday, September 14, 2010. CAUGHT THI...

Finding interesting stuff to do! Monday, August 23, 2010. Townsville has grown enormously over the past 10 years. I suspect it's because, like Darwin, the growth in military personnel has a lot to do with it. The city is small and seems wedged between the Ross River and Castle Hill and therefore the suburbs have spread out with huge shopping centres acting like satellite cities and welding the whole area called Townsville together. Looking across to Magnetic Island from Castle Hill. In one of it's colours.

Finding interesting stuff to do! Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Special Bonsai Garden on Oahu. This info direct from those firemen who supply the loan). The local authority leaves her alone while. All other squatters get moved on. S. He earns her keep by maintaining such a beautiful water front. We watched her saying a little prayer over her little trees. Her tools: a pair of nail scissors. A lesson in non verbal and "just accepted" co operation. .This is her garden! Links to this post. Sunday, August 14, 2011.
travel for the over 60's: Mauritius
http://frolickingoldies.blogspot.com/2012/10/mauritius.html
Finding interesting stuff to do! Saturday, October 6, 2012. A day in town and not on a tour. Head for the market to see what the locals eat. The squashes and fruit were enormous and the celery and leeks were tiny! We found that the fruit and veg of the squash/pumpkin types were all enormous. The pomegranates were enormous and sweet. People eat fish sold from the market. No refrigeration here and it was hot! Their digestive systems are obviously stronger than ours! Leaving Port Louis, leisurely! Tuesdays ...

http://frolickingoldies.blogspot.com/2012/10/lankawi-interesting-for-its-lake.html
Finding interesting stuff to do! Saturday, October 6, 2012. Lankawi interesting for it's lake. Lankawi and it's fresh water lake protected from the sea by the mountains that surround it. It is a dead volcano crater filled with fresh water topped up by rain. The robbers of the island, the monkeys, will snatch anything from you. If you're heading for the lake leave food and anything in a plastic bag on the boat. Board walks everywhere enabling easy access for all to swim. The water wasn't cold. Tuesdays wi...

Ramblings of a Global Citizen
Join me in my wanderings around the globe via these online ramblings in far off places. Tuesday, 25 September 2012. Global Food Review; Candy Cafe Bar, Cairns. Spending so much of each year travelling I rarely get time to spend exploring what’s new and changed in my home town of Cairns. So during my regular “Rusty’s Ritual” that I manage to do whenever I am home over a weekend I decided to explore the Grafton Street Cafe precinct to grab a lazy breakfast. The two thick zucchini fritters on the bottom wer...
